Metallurgischer Ofen.

Metallurgical furnace.
The invention relates to a metallurgical furnace and is characterized in that a tightly adjoining ring is arranged at the opening of the retort, which ring creates a tight connection with the correspondingly designed mouth of the condensation chamber.
The drawing shows an exemplary embodiment of the subject matter of the invention in longitudinal section.
A designates a retort, which advantageously has the shape of a bottle lying on its side, so that the opening b for loading and emptying the retort is in the usual way at one end of the latter; c denotes the condensation space, which forms a kind of hood and which is sealed against a ring d placed around the opening of the retort, whereby sealing with putty (red lead) or clay on the sealing joints is unnecessary each time the condensation apparatus is removed; the ring itself is permanently sealed against the retort at dl.
During operation, the retort is accommodated in a melting chamber made of metal construction which is provided with a lining e and consists of two parts c1, e2 which can be separated from one another in order to allow the retort to be inserted or replaced. The upper part (e2) of said melting chamber is provided with an opening f for the extraction of the combustion products from the furnace as well as with doors or slides fl, which close openings which are used to load the furnace with fuel and to make the melting chamber accessible for cleaning or Serve aprons etc.
The lower part of said melting chamber contains the grate g, from which the retort is supported in a suitable manner, for example by means of a series of support pieces gl, gl made of refractory material, in which holes or channels g2 are formed if necessary to carry the heat on both sides of the furnace or to provide heating channels for the lower surface of the retort. Below the melting chamber there is an ash chamber h, on the bottom of which sits a trough which has the task of receiving the contents of the retort if it should crack or break.
EMI1.1
Gear j2 can be driven by a handwheel in such a way that the entire melting and ash chamber can be pivoted with the retort.
This tilts the latter so far that the contents of the retort can be emptied; or the retort can be tilted so that its opening looks upwards, in which position it can be loaded quickly. Likewise, by means of the device mentioned, the level of the molten charge during the melting process or during the evaporation or distillation can be maintained at any suitable height.
