Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

  Process for producing objects that are permanently noctilucent.

   It is known that objects of all kinds can be made noctilucent by providing their surface with a coating of radioactive luminous material, which is applied using a suitable binding agent such as rubber solution, varnish or the like. With this previously practiced method, however, considerable losses of luminous material always occur, since only the top layer of the covering becomes effective, while the lower layers of the same are uselessly consumed and since residues of luminous material remain in the mortar, brushes etc. can be used again. As a result of the high price of radioactive luminous preparations, the losses that occur in the processing of this expensive material play a very important role.

   The subject matter of the invention is a method the application of which eliminates these losses entirely. It consists in that the noctilucent objects to be prepared are first coated with a layer of phosphorescent substances such as a Sidot diaphragm or the like.
 EMI1.1
 means are prepared. The objects provided with a coating of phosphorescent substances or formed from such substances are immersed in the radioactive solution or prepared with these solutions in another suitable manner. Since with this type of preparation only the surface of the objects is mixed with radioactive substances, the production of permanently noctilucent objects can be achieved in a simple and cheap way.

   In order to protect the prepared surfaces from damage or soiling, the objects can expediently and in a known manner be provided with a coating of transparent varnish or another transparent protective layer.
