  Outer hull for rigid airships.

As is well known, the @ so-called outer skin of a rigid airship must not encompass the cross-section of its skeleton very tightly, because in damp weather it contracts so significantly, despite all the impregnation, that the skeleton of the ship is very stressed.

In dry weather, however, the outer skin stretches. The driving pressure is then on parts of the skeleton that are not suitable for this; in addition, a limp envelope flutters, which means an obstacle to travel.

In order to avoid these inconveniences, the shell of the subject matter of the invention is so elastic in the longitudinal direction of the ship or between its longitudinal girders that it collapses in wet weather with the elastic means expanding.
 EMI1.1

The subject of the invention is shown in the drawing in an exemplary embodiment. It shows Fig. 1 a part of the schematic cross section of a rigid airship, Fig. 2 the inclusion of the elastic means in the envelope on a larger scale.

The elastic means is best designed in the form of a band and either arranged on the longitudinal beams or, more advantageously, switched between them in the hall.

In the envelope a (FIGS. 1 and 2) of the airship body, which consists of any fabric, rubber bands d are inserted between its longitudinal beams c, the longitudinal edges e of which become too thinner towards the edge (FIG. 2).
 EMI1.2
Tension differences caused by the envelope are balanced out, but also those caused by air currents such as driving or wind pressure.

PATENT CLAIMS: l. Outer hull for rigid airships, characterized in that elastic intermediate members are inserted into the hull in order to compensate for the differences in tension in the hull caused by changes in strength or air disturbances.
