Process for the production of cartridge cases from hard paper for firearms.

The cartridge cases for firearms are now only made of paper in the barrel part, while the bottom has a metal capsule. The latter makes the cartridge case more expensive.

It is also desirable for various other reasons to eliminate the metal parts. If you wanted to close the cardboard tube with a glued-on cardboard cover and leave out the previously attached metal parts, the cartridge case lacks the necessary hold on the bottom. With the aid of the method forming the subject of the invention, it is possible to manufacture a cartridge case without a metal tool entirely from paper, in such a way that it fully meets the requirements imposed by the military administration itself.

Figures 1 to 5 of the drawings illustrate the sequence of operations which will be described below.

The sleeve a is, as is known, wound from paper and provided with a board b (Fig. 1). The bottom d, i.e. the rear end of the cartridge case, is also wrapped from paper so that it forms a roll, and an edge c, also made of paper, is firmly wrapped and glued to this roll d. In order for a better binding to take place, the paper strip which forms the edge c can partially intervene in the winding of the roll d. The so far completed cap c, d (Fig. 2) is then placed in a press consisting of a die r and punches and y and is pressed under high pressure to form a hard paper body (Fig. 3).

Then this body, after it has been coated with glue and placed on the punch h (Fig. 5), is inserted into the sleeve a, and the whole is brought back into the press between the die i and
 EMI1.1
again (Fig. 4). As a result, the connection is so firm that the bottom edge cannot be torn off and the cartridge case fully meets the requirements without the need for mead.
