Description

Arrangement for short circuit braking of direct current motors.
In short-circuit braking of DC motors, significant current surges often occur during the transition from motor to generator operation. which are greater, the lower the braking resistor is dimensioned. These current surges are very damaging for the collector of the machine because, even if auxiliary poles are present, the commuting field cannot develop quickly enough.
According to the invention, the auxiliary poles are provided with an additional field winding which is located in the circuit of the braking resistor, so that an extraordinarily strong commutation field is formed at the moment of braking.
The figure shows an application example. It denotes A the armature, B the switch used for switching (from engine position I to generator position II), C the braking resistor, D the normal auxiliary pole winding, E the additional excitation winding forming the subject of the invention. The field winding of the machine is not shown; it can be excited in the shunt as well as strange or in the main circuit. Under certain circumstances, the braking resistor can also be replaced by a short circuit.
