Verfahren, um Seide verfilzbar zu machen.
Das Verfahren ist bedingt durch den EiwriLkharakter der Seide und deren Quellbarkeit und teilweisen Auflösungsfähigkeit in kalter Ameisensäure, ohne dass dadurch weitergehende Ausspaltungen des Fibroinmoleküls stattfinden.
Beispiel I : Man entbastet kleinfaserige Seide (Seidenabfall) nach bekannten Methoden, behandelt mit kaltem Wasser, bis die Faser gut ausgewaschen, schlämmt mit Ameisensäure an, bis ein gleichmässiger Faserhrei entsteht, gibt diesen auf geeignete Siebvorrichtungen, welche das Ablaufen der Ameisensäure gestatten und bringt hierauf den Faserkuchen zur Trocknung. Es entsteht ein ausserordentlich zäher, zunächst mehr papierartiger Körper, der durch zweck- entsprechende maschinelle Behandlung in ein filzartiges Gebilde übergeführt wird.

The process is due to the egg-like character of silk and its swellability and partial dissolution capacity in cold formic acid, without further splitting of the fibroin molecule.
Example I: Small-fiber silk (silk waste) is deburred according to known methods, treated with cold water until the fiber is well washed out, slurried with formic acid until a uniform fiber egg is formed, these are placed on suitable sieving devices which allow the formic acid to run off and bring it down then the fiber cake for drying.
