Abstract
By using titanium or a titanium alloy for mouthpieces in brass instruments, i.e. trumpet, flugelhorn, horn, tuba and trombone, the vibrations generated are not damped, but the response and the brilliance of a brass instrument are significantly improved. Due to the retracted, invisible ring or the wound ring made of pure iridium or pure tantalum or tungsten and its alloys, the tone becomes fuller and bigger. Both titanium and the titanium alloys as well as the PVD coatings are inert. The mouthpieces can be coated with TiN or CrC or CrM in the PVD process.
Description
<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

The mouthpiece is a rotationally symmetrical turned part made of metal with an edge (part 1), a bowl (part 2), a heart (part 3), a soul (part 4) and a shaft (part 5). The hole is called stem or shaft hole (part 6.
The mouthpiece is usually made of brass and then silvered or gold-plated.
The invention is based on the fact that titanium or a titanium alloy with or without a retracted ring (part 7), with or without coating with titanium nitride, chromium carbide or chromium nitride, is used instead of damping materials such as soft brass alloys.
The titanium alloy can be coated with titanium nitride (TiN), chrome nitride (CrN) or chrome carbide (CrC). This is a physical vapor deposition process, or PVD for short. Both the alloy itself and the alloy coated with TiN or CrC or CrN are inert, and no allergies are known. With silver-plated or gold-plated mouthpieces, there is the problem of direct contact of the lips with the brass alloy after this layer has been rubbed off.
In order to obtain a fuller tone, a ring made of pure iridium (part 7) or pure tantalum (also part 7) or tungsten and its alloys (also part 7) can be drawn into or drawn into the mouthpiece. This ring, when retracted, is invisible from the outside and must not be glued but must be pressed in warmly so that the vibration transmission can take place. Likewise, the opened ring must not be glued but is shrunk on.
Due to the very easy to vibrate titanium alloy, the brass base instrument, and this includes the trumpet, flugelhorn, horn, tuba and trombone, has a very easy response and a brilliant tone rich in overtones.
Due to the inserted or mounted ring made of pure iridium or pure tantalum or tungsten and its alloys, the brass instrument has an even larger, fuller tone, resulting from the density and sound conductivity of titanium or a titanium alloy is extremely suitable due to its density and tensile strength with the associated modulus of elasticity for a mouthpiece for a brass instrument.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The success is clearly audible, since the response of the instrument and the brilliance as well as the load-bearing capacity of the sound are significantly improved, since there is practically no damping of the impulses, vibrations and overtones due to a softer alloy.
