Description

    Pentagonal- WI nkelsp iegelprlsma.

    Pentagonal angled mirror imprint.

As is known, the production costs of pentagonal corner mirror prisms made of glass or quartz increase faster with increasing size of the dimensions than these dimensions themselves. This is based on the fact that larger blocks of glass or quartz are disproportionately expensive even in their raw state. Another disadvantageous consequence of large dimensions in such prisms is that optically harmful stresses occur more quickly in a larger block than in one of smaller dimensions.

If one wishes to cement the prism from two parts together in order to avoid these disadvantages occurring in the manufacture of larger pentagonal corner mirror prisms, this is best done according to the present invention so that the cement surface is perpendicular to the main sectional plane of the prism and that it (as in the drawing shown) cuts through the prism in such a way that one of its two components is a right-angled prism, the cathetus surfaces of which serve as the entry and exit surfaces and whose hypotenuse surface (which is flat in the case shown) is cemented.

This arrangement has the effect that neither of the two components of the prism has more than two optically effective surfaces (and surfaces to be processed accordingly), and that any deflections occurring on the cement surface cancel each other out.
