Kugelventil.

Ball valve.
The invention relates to a ball valve which differs from the known valves of this type in that the ball is actuated by a smooth bolt penetrating from below into the valve housing, the ball moving perpendicular to the direction of flow of the water, so that the opening and the valve is closed quickly by simply pressing down or pulling the bolt by hand, without the need for any auxiliary equipment. Since the weight of the ball presses on top of the bolt, the valve can also close automatically.
Such a valve is illustrated in longitudinal section in the drawing. It exists

pipes * and the pipe socket zone 3, which is perpendicular to them. Inside the housing there is loosely a ball b, the diameter of which is greater than the inside diameter of the pipe; the ball consists of a metal core 4 and an elastic jacket 5 made of rubber or cork. Under this ball, a plate c is arranged, which sits on a smooth bolt 6 which penetrates from below into the valve housing and is mounted in the cover 7 screwed onto the connector 3; Between the cover 7 and the shoulder 8 of the housing is a seal made of two metal disks 9 with an insert 10 made of rubber or the like in between.
The valve is opened by simply pushing the spindle 6 into the interior of the housing, whereby the piston c and thereby the ball b are raised in such a way that the medium flowing through can flow around the ball b, the plate c and their spindle. If the spindle is pulled down, the liugel sinks under its own weight and is pressed by the pressure from the inflow line x against the edge of the outflow line y into position b ', whereby the closure is achieved. Because the weight of the dip ball presses on the smooth bolt (6) from above, the valve can also close automatically.
