EMI1.1

EMI1.1
There are already known wooden propellers for aircraft in which the wings consist of narrow boards which run in the direction of the wings. With these screws, the boards are laid on top of each other in a fan shape and then glued in layers perpendicular to the axis of rotation, whereupon the wing shape is worked out.
This production method has a number of disadvantages.
As is well known, the greatest importance is attached to making the wing cross-section as thin as possible with propellers and, in particular, to make them as sharp as possible at the ends. With the previous type of gluing, however, after the correct screw shape has been worked out, there are so few glue joints at the ends that you cannot go down to the cheapest thickness.
It is also known that it is expedient to give the wings a certain angular position to one another in order to neutralize the effect of the centrifugal force and the thrust force.
Such an inclination of the wings could not be achieved with the wood screws executed in the previous manner. In this case, a larger part of the outer wing ends would be deprived of their connection with the hub by forming gussets that remain free, and there would be no continuous wood fiber from the end to the hub.
These disadvantages are eliminated by the manufacturing method according to the present invention. It consists in the fact that two opposite wings consist of continuous wooden rods that run in the direction of the wings, which are glued together in layers parallel to the axis of rotation of the screw. This new gluing process eliminates the disadvantages mentioned above and has the further advantage that the number of glue joints is considerably greater, especially in the endangered areas. As a result, even greater strength and security against warping is achieved, which is increased by the fact that in this way one is able to connect a greater number of wooden parts with different fibers.
However, the larger number of glue joints achieved in the specified manner means that the
The area of each individual glue line is small. In order to counteract the tearing out of individual strips, especially the edge strips, by centrifugal force, a special one is required
Measure to be taken. According to the invention it consists in that on the wooden rods

Longitudinal veneer is arranged.
A screw according to the present method is shown on the drawing in three figures. Fig. 1 shows a complete two-winged screw in plan view, Fig. 2 and 3 are plan view and cross-section of a wing on a larger scale.
The screw is composed of (flat wooden sticks a, which run parallel to the axis of rotation in the direction of the wings. The wooden sticks are made according to a template that has the shape of the wing and are firmly glued together. A transverse veneer b and A lengthwise veneer c is placed over it, which at the same time also increases the resistance to weathering.
