with oversynchronous, however, works as a generator. The difficulty lies in the fact that one cannot simply go from under-synchronous to over-synchronous. In the case of synchronism, the voltage between the slip rings is equal to zero, thus also the voltage on the excitation winding of the collector machine; it can therefore not work as a separately excited machine and supply the energy that is necessary to achieve oversynchronism.

The synchronization point can only be exceeded in such a way that the machine in the vicinity of the synchronization point excites itself and stabilizes the entire arrangement; In this case, however, the machine must be able to be stabilized at a low voltage, since in the vicinity of the synchronism the voltage on the slip rings becomes very small. the natural saturation of the collector machine must be at a much higher voltage; Thus, a stable passage through the synchronous point is only possible if the collector machine is stabilized for the lower voltage range using the device described above.

In addition to the mentioned advantage of the smaller dimensions, you also have a second, equally important one: namely the possibility of using a much smaller one with the same regulation range
Number of periods to work on the collector machine, which, as is known, the transformer sp. The openings in the short-circuited brushes etc. become significantly smaller.

With the same advantage, stabilized machines can be used as starting machines for brushless (synchronous or asynchronous) motors according to the device just described. The use of collector machines as starting machines is known per se: however, with the known arrangements the collector machine would have to be externally excited. so a separate exciter was also required. With the device described, the starting machine can be designed as a self-excited machine, as shown in FIG. 6: K is the starting machine whose excitation z. B. in the shunt with the interposition of the transformer t on the brushes; the machine K runs at a constant and variable number of revolutions
