Process for eliminating the gases contained in the filament of electric light bulbs.
It is a known fact that almost all metals that have been heated in hydrogen or other gases retain some amount of these gases. The metallic filaments of electric incandescent lamps show the same behavior when they e.g. B. be heated in hydrogen or in a hydrogen-containing gas mixture. In order to eliminate the gas contained in the filament of the incandescent lamp, this filament is known to be made glowing when the bulb is emptied by passing an electric current through it. But if the thread is inserted into the glass bulb with the same carrier on which it was formed in a gas heated to red heat, e.g. B.
Hydrogen, has been heated, the passage of an electric current is not enough to excrete the gas while the pear is being emptied, because the heating of the thread caused by this current can do that in the metallic components (hook, rod, mass, by means of which the thread attached to the hook, etc.) containing gas. This circumstance makes emptying the pears very difficult, since the gas contained in these metallic components escapes from them very slowly.
But if only traces of such gases, and especially of hydrogen, remain in the glass bulb, this has a detrimental effect on the burning time. the lamp.
The invention consists in the fact that the thread with its carrier, before being inserted into the pear, is heated by an external heat source that is independent of the thread in an inert gas that is hardly retained by the metal (e.g. nitrogen) will.
The gas contained in the metal, preferably hydrogen, escapes very quickly and almost completely. This escape takes place all the more rapidly and becomes all the more complete the higher the temperature up to which the support is heated.
