<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Drum for drying and removing dust from granular material.
The invention relates to a heatable drum for drying and removing dust from sand.
Gravel, clay, coal or the like. Drying drums with an inclined axis and radially positioned longitudinal ribs for lifting and dropping the material are known, but the heat is only insufficiently exploited by them, which is mainly due to the fact that the drying material as a result of the rotating movement the radial position of the ribs falls too early.
The essence of the present invention is that the ribs attached to the inner surface of a heatable drum are designed as scooping chutes, which face the axis with their convex surface and are attached to the drum wall with the rear edge with respect to the direction of movement, while their front edge comes close to the drum wall. Thanks to this design, the channels only allow the dry material to fall off,
EMI1.1
remains on the jacket surface exposed to direct heat for a long time and still enables dust removal.
Such a drying drum is shown schematically in the drawing, namely FIG. 1 shows a longitudinal section and FIG. 2 shows the view from the feed end, while FIG. 3 shows the cross section of a drum provided with eight ribs in ten successive positions, so that 80 positions of a blade rib can be derived from it.
The drum T is mounted on rollers R on the feed side E and A on the discharge end
EMI1.2
in the case of stationary systems, it can consist of masonry.
The ribs S, which are fastened in a known manner to the inner circumferential surface of the drum T, are in the form of grooves which have their convex surface facing the axis and are fastened to the drum wall with the rear edge with respect to the direction of movement
EMI1.3
Drop a quarter of a drum revolution, so that the material remains exposed to the heat radiated by the drum T over its entire surface for a long time. The use of heat is more intensive, since even the falling material is surrounded by the hottest air, which is not the case with drying drums of the known type with radially extending ribs.
3 shows at 1 when the goods are taken along by the scoop-like ribs and at 52 when they begin to emerge from them again. In the position 66, the channel S is completely emptied. The goods that are released from one channel are stopped by the rear part of the next front channel, in order to start from position 1 and to be picked up again by the channel from which it was released.
As a result of the inclined position of the drum and its rotating movement, the material is conveyed in a known manner to the drum outlet. Depending on the channel emptying
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
to be accelerated or decelerated towards the end of the drying drum, the channels receive a corresponding cross-sectional change during construction, whereby the delay in emptying the channel can be increased to such an extent that the material does not leave the channels at all, i.e. does not fall down,
The fixed end plate at the inlet end is provided with an exhaust pipe Z, through which the vapors can escape if it is only a matter of drying the goods.
If dedusting is also sought, the exhaust pipe is connected to an exhaustor. Usually you will have to knock down the extracted dust, possibly collect it. An air supply pipe L is provided at the opposite end of the drum.
