Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

  Process for the preparation of viscous solutions of acetyl cellulose.

   As is known, acetyl cellulose dissolves easily in chloroform and acetone, but not in ethyl acetate. It has now been found that the same is extremely abundantly taken up in methyl formate to form a viscous solution from which the product can easily be obtained by evaporation in a coherent film.

   The easy evaporation of the methyl formate is a particular advantage. Acetyl cellulose in ethyl formate is less abundant, but still far more soluble than in acetic acid ester or in higher acids. Of course, other acetyl cellulose-dissolving or swelling components can also be added.
