If one now looks at the switch arm a in the open position illustrated in FIG. 3, it becomes clear that the arm a is brought into the switch-closing position by an upward movement of the handle fi, whereupon the lever f of the holding piece immediately with the resilient plate l comes into contact and cannot move either in one direction or in the other, so that said holding piece forms a fixed stop which holds the arm in the switch-closing position against the action of its springs. The movement of the handle is transmitted to the arm a by the lever f, the holding piece cl and the stop h.
If an extraordinarily strong current flows through the strips connecting the contacts b, the latter expand enough as a result of the heat generated by the current, or separate sufficiently far from one another to allow the release of the stop h from the holding piece el, whereby the Arm instantly swings into the switch-opening position through its springs, not shown in the drawing. During the first part of this movement, the fixed and movable contacts are separated from each other and during the last part of the movement, the resilient plate 1 is opened to release the holding

is brought back.
In order to bring the holding piece e1 to the correct side of the strips b and stops h and thus to be able to bring the arm back into the position that closes the switch, the same is pulled between said strip b and stops h by means of the handle. In order to give the arm a movement causing the switch to open, the handle is depressed, as a result of which the resilient plate 1 releases the lever f of the holding piece e1.
Sufficient free movement can take place between the arm and the handle to allow rapid actuation of the arm a by virtue of its springs.
To train the switch so that it comes into action. when there is no voltage, one end of the resilient or rotatably mounted plate 1 mentioned above is connected to the armature of an electromagnet. The effect of the magnet on the armature is

Cm equal pressure distribution of the part e 'to achieve the stops h and to compensate for any mechanical inaccuracies in the construction. a washer c2 provided with an inclined surface is arranged between parts e and e '. By pushing the washer, the front surface of part e ', when it is screwed on, can be tilted a little and thus both parts can be brought into intimate contact.
