inward around the band, which is now completely enclosed in the mouth of the tissue. The lower part of the ring is then placed in the band in the mouth of the fabric by first passing one of the lugs 8 and then the rest of the band through the band until the lower edge of the band rests on these lugs. In this case, a loop or the like running around the edge of the circular ring part can be present, against which the upper edge of the band strikes in order to hold it in place. Of course, the fabric can also be attached to the ring in this way before the lower end is closed.
As it is well known that when the stocking fabric is burned it shrinks quite a lot, it is advisable to set up the asbestos tape in a moderately tight fit so that there is sufficient loosening during this process, taking into account the expansion of the ring and the contraction of the fabric between the fabric and the ring so that the fabric does not crumble off, as happens very often with the now usual fabric stockings. In this way the fabric is held at a sufficient distance from the ring by the asbestos tape.
In the case of an upright mantle, as shown in FIG. 7, the fabric can be attached to a ring 2 by means of an asbestos tape in a manner similar to that described above. This ring 2 can in this case be provided with somewhat curved cross bars 12 in order to attach it to the fork-shaped split head of the stand which holds the stocking on the burner.
The bands are expediently provided with a beveled edge so that they can be more easily slipped onto the ring, as is indicated in FIG. 6.
