Process for preparing chrome-colored leather for glue preparation.
According to a known method, a de-tanning is achieved in that the waste of chrome-baked leather is first treated with an alkali or with an alkaline earth metal and then after washing with a mineral acid. Only caustic alkalis and alkaline earths are used as bases in this process. However, the use of caustic alkalis etc. has, as has been shown, technical difficulties because of the severe swelling of the skin and the associated difficulty in washing out the excess alkali. It has now been found that this deficiency can be remedied if the caustic alkalis and the same compounds of the alkaline earths are replaced by water-soluble alkali carbonates, the use of which makes the mechanical processing of the mostly fine chrome leather waste considerably easier.
A further treatment of the prepared chrome shavings with diluted acids, namely in the heat, leads to the tanning of the leather. The embodiment of the present invention is designed in such a way that the chrome-baked leather subbases initially
