Description

Verfahren zum Färben bezw. Brunieren von Knochen, Elfenbein, Meerschaum, Holz,
Horn u. dgl.

Process for dyeing bezw. Burnishing of bones, ivory, meerschaum, wood,
Horn u. like

The present invention forms a method for dyeing, respectively. Burnishing objects made of bone, ivory, meerschaum, wood, horn, etc.
The process consists in exposing the objects to be colored to the action of sugar vapors, which after some time cause the material to turn brown, initially a light coloring that gradually changes into darker nuances and finally into a deep brown, almost black color. By changing the duration of exposure, one can vary the shade of the color.

The method is carried out, for example, in such a way that sugar, expediently Robzucker, is introduced into a closed container in which the objects to be browned are arranged hanging, standing or lying, and is heated by heating the container. The rising sugar vapors cause a coloration after a short time, which, if the effect lasts for some time, becomes very dark and almost black.
