 EMI1.3

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Process for the production of artificial leather.

The artificial leathers on the market represent an imitation of natural leather in that they try to come close to natural leather by covering them with a grained skin. Often these products come with a layer of cork flour. mixed with an adhesive such as rubber clings, glue. Varnishes and s. w. Brushed or dusted with cork flour in order to imitate the grip of the natural leather as much as possible.
 EMI1.1
known. These products are BEZW with economical addition of a binding agent. Adhesive made into plates of very limited size under strong pressure.

This is what the new method is about. to represent an emulsion. in which nature is in the finest possible distribution. by treating leather flour in oil and resin emulsion through longer digestion with appropriate heat and constant stirring until a uniform body is formed.
 EMI1.2
the latter is allowed to pass through the pair of rollers of a calender, heated to approx. 40 ° C., under high pressure and with the emulsion being applied on one or both sides.

The fabric impregnated in this way is dried for a few days and then repeatedly calendered cold under constant pressure.

   2. In the production of alcoholic emulsions, the same procedure is used for the production of the aqueous emulsion, but only treats it for approx. 3 hours in the steam bath using a back
 EMI1.3

t'3. If a combination of both types of emulsions is used, the aqueous emulsion treated for about 5 hours at about 60fit C is concentrated to a water-poor body, alcohol is added accordingly, digested at about 400 for an hour and then proceed as above.

The present process gives a product similar in appearance and grip to natural leather, which is coated on the outside with a thin layer of varnish, collodion and the like. s. w. closed and provided with natural grains by means of engraved rollers or plates.

PATENT CLAIM: Process for the production of artificial leather, characterized in that a base of fabric BEZW. a bonded fabric of carded fibers under more or less strong pressure and application of heat with a mass impregnated, which consists essentially of leather skin, oils and resins and by thickening aqueous or. alcoholic emulsions has arisen.
