Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

   <Desc / Clms Page number 1>

The invention relates to a device for needling a nonwoven fabric with at least one needle bed that can be driven back and forth in the puncturing direction and with a nonwoven guide consisting of a stitch pad opposite the needle bed and a stripper provided between the stitch pad and the needle bed, the stitch pad in the needle area in Fleece flow direction forms differently inclined sections.

In order to achieve a higher strength when needling a nonwoven, it is known (US Pat. No. 2,896,303A) not to prick the needles into the nonwoven at an angle to the nonwoven surface, but rather inclined in opposite directions in the direction of the nonwoven. For this purpose, the fleece guide formed from the stitch pad and the stripper forms an inlet section rising in the direction of fleece passage and an outlet section falling in opposite directions, which is connected to the inlet section in the region of an unneeded zone.

Accordingly, the needle bed, which can be driven up and down, is shaped like a roof and only carries vertically aligned needles in the area of the oppositely inclined sections, which pierce the web in the area of the inlet and outlet sections of the web guide, specifically because of the rising or falling web guide or inclined against the direction of web travel. Apart from the fact that, due to the needles being limited to one entry and one exit area, only comparatively low puncture densities can be achieved, which prevents a higher degree of matting, the achievable increase in the longitudinal strength remains limited.

The invention is therefore based on the object of avoiding these deficiencies and of improving a device for needling a nonwoven of the type described at the outset with simple constructive means in such a way that a high degree of matting and a considerable increase in the longitudinal strength of the nonwoven is achieved.

The invention achieves the stated object in that the stitch pad, with its sections which are continuously merging into one another in the needle insertion area and have different inclinations, has an increasing or decreasing average inclination in the nonwoven direction.

Because of the needles extending continuously over the differently inclined sections of the stitch pad, a usual number of needles and needle density is ensured, whereby the direction of the needles in the nonwoven in the web passage direction changes constantly because of the constant transition between the differently inclined sections of the stitch pad, because yes the nonwoven at least when the needles are inserted, is pressed flat against the stitch base. Since, due to the constant inclination transitions of the stitch underlay, needling of the fleece not only results under the penetration directions that are most inclined relative to the fleece surface, but also in a correspondingly graduated manner under all intermediate directions, a particularly high degree of matting is achieved.

In addition, the longitudinal strength of the nonwoven is increased to an unexpected extent by the fact that the nonwoven with different puncture directions, but predominantly in a sense of inclination, that is, primarily with either
 EMI1.1
required, which, despite the differently inclined sections, has an increasing or decreasing average inclination in the direction of web travel. This asymmetrical needling of the fleece, which is asymmetrical with respect to the longitudinal center of the fleece guide, should avoid an otherwise noticeable disadvantageous influence between the intersecting punctures, which leads to the surprising increase in strength.

This fact can be used to advantage, particularly in the case of paneled nonwovens, because these paneled nonwovens have a preferred fiber layer transverse to the longitudinal direction of the nonwoven and therefore have a cross strength which is significantly higher than the longitudinal strength, to which the longitudinal strength can now advantageously be adapted by the needling process according to the invention.

Since the fleece is pressed against the stitch pad when the needles are inserted, the surface inclination of the stitch pad relative to the needles is decisive for the alignment of the puncture channels. The shape of the scraper and the needle bed can therefore be selected independently of the design of the stitch pad if, on the one hand, the scraper function and, on the other hand, a corresponding penetration depth of the needles is ensured. Assign the scraper or the needle bed to the
 EMI1.2
nisse because, for example, the needle board shape adapted to the shape of the stitch pad allows the use of needles of the same length over the entire needle area.

In addition, the increase in strength due to the curvature of the needle bed in particular in connection with the high load of high-frequency needling devices is of particular importance because the masses to be moved can be kept comparatively small due to higher strengths.

If the average inclination of the stitch underlay falls in the direction of the fleece, the needles, which predominantly pierce the fleece with a movement component in the direction of flow of the fleece, exert a stretching effect on the fleece, which in turn is particularly advantageous in connection with paneled nonwovens, because this results in the otherwise necessary, subsequent longitudinal stretching of the fleece can be omitted.

 EMI2.1
Stitch area extending, eccentric curvature with respect to the longitudinal center of the fleece guide. Another possible embodiment arises if the stitch underlay has a curvature that increases or decreases in the direction in which the fleece passes.

While an increasing or decreasing curvature of the stitch support allows a more advantageous adaptation to different needling requirements, the design of the stitch support in the form of a circular cylinder section arranged asymmetrically with respect to the longitudinal center of the fleece guide offers advantages in terms of manufacture.

The subject matter of the invention is shown in the drawing, for example. Show it
1 shows a device according to the invention for needling a fleece in a simplified side view and
Fig. 2 shows the fleece guide according to FIG 1 in a larger scale also in side view.

The device shown consists of at least one needle bed 2 held in a needle bar 1, the needles 3 of which pierce a fleece 6 guided between a stitch support 4 and a stripper 5, which is fed via a pair of drive rollers 7 and drawn off via a pair of drive rollers 8, in each case tangential to the fleece guide formed by the stitch pad 4 and the stripper 5.

To set the puncture depth and to adapt to the respective fleece thickness, both the stitch pad 4 and the stripper 5 can be adjusted in height via actuators 9. The needle support 4 and the stripper 5 are designed as perforated plates for the needle passage. To drive the needle bed 2 is a thrust crank drive 10, which is formed from two parallel, oppositely driven crank or eccentric shafts 11, 12 and push rods mounted on these crank or eccentric shafts 7, 8, which are connected by a coupling to which the Bumpers 13 are articulated for needle board movement.

In contrast to conventional fleece guides, the stitch base 4 and the stripper 5 have a constant curvature, so that differently inclined sections result in the fleece flow direction 14, which continuously merge into one another, as can be seen above all from FIG. 2.

Since the fleece 6 lies flat against the stitch pad 4, the needles 3 have differently inclined puncture channels with respect to the fleece surface, depending on the respective inclination of the stitch pad 4 with respect to the puncturing direction. The average inclination of these puncture channels with respect to the fleece surface would correspond to the direction of movement of the needle bed 2 with a symmetrical course of the stitch pad 4 with respect to the longitudinal center of the fleece guide, because in this case each puncture is opposed to a direction of the fleece flow in the direction of the fleece flow.

In the inventive design of the stitch pad 4, however, their average inclination does not run vertically, but rather inclined to the direction of movement of the needle bed 2, so that there is a corresponding preferential inclination of the needle punctures into the fleece, according to the exemplary embodiment in the sense of punctures with a component in the fleece flow direction 14.

These needle punctures, which predominate in this sense of inclination, result in a particularly high increase in the longitudinal strength of the fleece, in conjunction with a stretching action, which is particularly advantageous when needling paneled fleeces.
