The invention relates to a method for needling a waien web for paper machine felt production with at least a proportion of synthetic fibers, and to an apparatus for carrying out the method.
In addition, the needle punctures form imperfections with regard to the surface uniformity, which must be taken into account in the case of high demands on the material web with regard to the dimensional stability and the surface quality, as is the case in particular with paper machine felts. calendered under the influence of temperature and stress until a far-reaching stress compensation, for example sufficient for the required dimensional stability, is achieved
Paper machine felts usually consist of a base fabric and nonwovens needled onto the base fabric. So that such a paper machine felt can be produced with the required dimensional stability, it is first necessary to ensure that the backing fabric is sufficiently tension-free and accurate in shape, which again requires pretreatment on a tensioning calender under the influence of temperature and tension. This pretreatment becomes more complex as the weight of the fabric increases, so that the tensioning calender assigned to a needling device is increasingly utilized for the preparation of the carrier fabric and an additional tensioning calender has to be used for the post-treatment of the needled paper machine felts. Although heat treatments of felts or fiber mats immediately prior to their needling are already known, these known heat treatments cannot bring about any reduction in tension required for paper machine felts. For example, continuous synthetic threads are drawn over a knife edge before needling and then heated in order to increase the crimping of the fibers caused by the knife edge (DE-A-1 560 735). In another case (DE-A-3 135 247), the glass fiber strands of a glass fiber mat to be produced from endless glass fiber strands are dried before and during needling, by keeping the air humidity at an elevated temperature correspondingly low, but this has no effect on the needling process 25.
30 Die Erfindung löst die gestellte Aufgabe dadurch, daß die vor dem Nadeln erwärmte und dann in erwärmtemThe invention is therefore based on the object of designing a method for needling webs for paper machine felt production of the type described in such a way that, owing to a reduced build-up of tension when needling the web, any reworking thereof can be simplified. In addition, the uniformity of the needled surface should be improved. 30 The invention solves this problem in that the heated before needling and then heated
The state of the needled web is kept under tension during its heating and subsequent needling.
The invention is based on the finding that the fiber's resistance to deformation of the fibers, which is caused by the piercing needles, not only influences the needle load, but also the tensions resulting from the needling in the web. The lower this resistance to deformation, the lower the needling stresses to be expected in the web and the lower the risk of fiber breakage. In addition, with good deformability of the fibers, less impairment of the uniformity of the needled web surface by the puncture points of the needles is to be expected. If the resistance to deformation of the fibers for needling can therefore be reduced, overall more favorable needling conditions result if a tensile stress is additionally applied, by means of which a directional effect on the material web can be exerted in conjunction with the influence of temperature. This additional directivity on the backing fabric of a paper machine felt, to which a nonwoven web is to be needled, eliminates the need for complex preparation of the web outside the needling device, so that the tensioning calender, which is otherwise required for this purpose, can be used again for the post-treatment of the needled paper machine felt 45, especially since yes also the residual stresses building up during the needling within the goods web are reduced and are partially reduced by the tensile stress applied during the needling.
In diesem Zusammenhang ist 50 festzuhalten, daß bereits erhebliche Vorteile erzielt werden können, wenn zumindest bei einem Teil der eingesetztenSince the resistance to deformation in synthetic fibers can be reduced by appropriate heating, the advantages of a lower resistance to deformation in webs of synthetic fibers can be exploited by needling the web in a heated state. In this context, it should be noted that considerable advantages can already be achieved if at least some of the ones used
Fibers the deformation properties can be improved by heating.
Es empfiehlt sich -2-To carry out the method, conventional needling devices can be used, to which only a heating device for the web in the direction of travel of the web must be arranged and a tensioning device for the web must be assigned in order to provide the necessary fiber heating under a corresponding tensile stress. The synthetic fibers used in each web are usefully heated up to their softening point at most, in order to be able to deform and reorient the fibers more easily. The type of heating plays a minor role in this context. We recommend -2-
