In konzentrierter

Process for the preparation of vat dyes of the anthracene series.
The surprising observation was made that anthraquinone provides a valuable vat dye extremely easily and smoothly if it is treated with metals in sulfuric acid. Analogous products are also obtained if derivatives of anthraquinone are subjected to the same process; suitable anthraquinone derivatives are e.g. For example, mentioned: α-nitroanthraquinone, haloanthraquinones, methylanthraquinones or anthraquinone sulfonic acids. ss-aminoanthraquinones and their derivatives? are expressly excluded here, since their treatment with metals in a sulfuric acid solution for the purpose of producing vat dyes is already described in German Patent No. 190656.
The procedure is illustrated by the following examples:
Example l.
10 / kg of anthraquinone and 7 kg of copper powder are introduced into 20 kg of sulfuric acid of 660 Bé and slowly heated to 100 to 12011 while stirring. As soon as the evolution of gas has ended, the melt is stirred in cold water, filtered and washed out. The new vat dye forms a black paste. In concentrated
Sulfuric acid dissolves the dye with a dirty brown color. He dyes cotton in

has stopped, the reaction is over, whereupon it is poured into water and, as indicated in Example 1, worked up. The dye is identical to that obtained in Example 1.

100. The reaction is brought to an end by further heating to 120 and the melt is worked up in the manner described above.
Any aminooxyanthraquinone that has formed can be removed by soaking it off with dilute alkalis. The vat dye is a dark brown pasta that dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid in a dirty brown color and dyes cotton in dark olive nuances.
Example 4.
EMI1.3
After stirring the melt for a few hours, the temperature is slowly increased to 100 to 1100 and maintained at this temperature as long as the melt is still foaming. The work-up is the same. as in the previous examples

Example 5.
20 kg of β-methylanthraquinone are dissolved in 400 kg of sulfuric acid of 660 Bd and 5 kg of aluminum powder (aluminum bronze) are slowly added at 20 to 400 kg. The mixture is stirred for a few more hours and slowly heated to between 00 and 1200. The melt is complete as soon as the evolution of gas is no longer noticeable. The further processing is the same as given in the previous examples.
Example 6.

and slowly stir in 5 kg of aluminum powder (aluminum bronze) at 20 to 400. After a few hours, the melt is heated to 100 to 1200 until the evolution of gas has ceased. The work-up is the same as in the previous examples.
The properties of some representatives of this body class are shown in the table.
