Process for the decorative surface treatment of objects consisting at least superficially of aluminum
The invention relates to a method for the decorative surface treatment of at least superficially consisting of aluminum objects and has the purpose of u without the use of dyes. Like. To create decorations such as inscriptions, images, etc. on metallic objects that are not only characterized by their plastic shape, but also by a natural, weathering and aging-resistant color scheme. This makes use of the well-known effect that certain Al alloys, due to their alloy components, take on very specific shades during anodic oxidation without the addition of color.
The method according to the invention is characterized in that the objects to be decorated are coated with one or more layers of aluminum or Al alloys of different compositions, then the desired decorative pattern or inscription is applied by removing material at these points until the respective layer is reached and then the whole thing is subjected to anodic oxidation in which the respective layers change color according to their alloy components. According to a further characteristic of the invention, the coating is carried out by roll cladding, the removal or the gutting can be carried out by scraping, milling, etching, grinding or notching, etc. In addition to the color effect, the removal creates the three-dimensional relief effect.
The subject matter of the invention is illustrated, for example, using a drawing. Should z. If, for example, a name plate is produced in the manner according to the invention, a layer --2-- of a chromium-containing Al alloy (AI + 0.3% Cr) 0.2 mm thick and above this is placed on a plate-l- made of pure aluminum an Al-silicon alloy (Al + 5% Si) also 0.2 mm thick applied by roll cladding.
Now the desired inscription --4-- is in two deep levels
EMI1.1
Subjected to anodic oxidation in a bath of 20% sulfuric acid and a colorless oxide layer is created on the pure Al layer, while the Al-chromium alloy layer-2 is discolored yellow and the Al-silicon layer -3- - reached a shade of gray. The result is a three-color typeface with a silver-colored background and golden-yellow shadow lines on a gray field.
Since these layers are created electrolytically in the metal without any added color, they are very abrasion-resistant and lightfast, cannot be washed out and are weather-resistant.
The invention is not limited to the illustrated embodiment, can also be applied to bodies of any kind, including drawings, and can produce the most varied of color variations when using different Al alloys and oxidizing agents and currents.
