Gas generating furnace equipped with vertical retorts.
In the case of luminous gas generation according to the method according to patent no. 25310, which has become known for vertical retorts, it is far more important than in the conventional Uasofen- operation that in an oven equipped with a plurality of retorts, all retorts are identical, but each one has the same height is heated evenly decreasing from bottom to top; because if these necessary operating conditions cannot be easily and precisely maintained with a vertical retort furnace, the effects and advantages of the method will soon be absent and disadvantages will arise which make the operation with vertical retorts to compete with the UH'n systems now in use unnecessary.
In the practical design of the process mentioned, it has now become

from a heating gas duct m running along the bottom of the furnace on the gonorator side of the furnace and communicating with generator a through gas outlets e and cl, and those coming from below or above or even better, as shown, from both sides through distribution ducts n from the Main air duct o highly preheated air is supplied, each retort is coated on its two broad sides by an initially horizontally running stream of fire, which then around the three horizontal tongues p, pl,
p2 goes upwards in a zigzag and thus heats the retorts in four superimposed zones with evenly decreasing embers. The combustion products, which are still very hot, collect in the uppermost zone and from there pass into the two regenerators h and h1, where, going down through the channels q, they give off their heat through the walls to the secondary combustion air rising in the channels f. The air flows combine in chambers above the regenerators and pass through ducts 8 into the air duct o located above or behind the heating gas duct m. The burner openings are of the same size, with the exception of the two slightly smaller openings closest to the furnace walls, as are the mouths of the air slots n .
By correctly dimensioning the (tas and air slots and the other passage cross-sections, if necessary also by installing adjustable sliders, as well as by influencing the chimney draft accordingly), you can control the heating of all retorts evenly so that their temperature from decreases upwards approximately according to its clear width.
Instead of one or two rows of retorts, three or more rows can optionally be built into the furnace chamber, especially if the retort cross section is closer to the square and a second combustion zone is created at a suitable point, e.g. in front of the third retort grater, by supplying secondary air again. It is also permissible not to mix the secondary combustion air with the heating gas first in the burner openings l. but already in the heating gas duct itself.
