Bath for the electrolytic deposition of white gold coatings
The possibility of the deposition of gold alloys by electrolysis is known. However, such a deposition has hitherto taken place under conditions in which the co-deposition of such metals which resulted in a white and at the same time high-gloss coating was not possible. So is z. B. the co-deposition of significant amounts of nickel from cyanidic solutions in the presence of free cyanide is not possible. Also from baths working in the neutral and acidic area, in which the co-deposition of small amounts of nickel, cobalt, indium, copper etc. succeeds, a white precipitate of z.
B. 18 carat not available. Surprisingly, it has now been found that such white, highly gold-containing coatings with great hardness and high gloss can be obtained by electrolysis if the dissociation of the individual metals in the solution is controlled by adding appropriate complexing and chelating agents in accordance with the desired alloy composition.
The invention therefore provides a bath for the electrolytic deposition of such white gold coatings, which contains gold cyanate and copper and nickel in the form of compounds with an organic acid, which is characterized in that it contains copper and nickel ions, at least one organic chelating agent for nickel with at least two Contains carboxylic acid residues bonded via nitrogen atoms and at least one organic complexing agent in the form of a nitrogen heterocyclic carboxylic acid.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, a bath is used which contains at least one compound of the general formula as a chelating agent for nickel

contains, in which Y is a straight or branched alkylene chain with 2 - 8 carbon atoms. where a chain of at least 2 carbon atoms must be present between the two nitrogen atoms, an oxaethylene chain with at least 2 and at most 4 ethylene units and at least 1 and at most 3 oxygen atoms, a hydroxyalkylene chain with 3 - 6 carbon atoms and 1 - 4 primary hydroxyl groups, a 2-cyano-propylene group or a cycloalkylene group with 5 - 7, preferably 6 ring carbon atoms and linkage with the nitrogen atoms in the p-position, or a CHCOO * group,
where one of the nitrogen atoms in the above formula is omitted and Rl is a CH, COO * group or a CH. CH. N (CK.COO ") - group, while R = R or represents a CH. CH. OH group.
The amount of compound I to be used in the electrolyte should be selected according to the dissociation constant of the resulting metal complex.
As complexing agents for copper in the bath according to the invention for the deposition of a white gold-copper-nickel alloy, apart from the above-mentioned compounds of formula I, the bath
