Device for combined gravity malting
The invention relates to a device for combined gravity malting, in which the softened germinal material or the green malt subsequently formed therefrom migrates through treatment sections (chambers) arranged one below the other in a shaft, which in turn are separated from one another by means of throughput control devices, whereby the material to be treated In the individual sections, the treatment required for germination or kilning, such as ventilation, ventilating, resting, heating, etc. is given. The invention is essentially based on the object of ensuring that the individual items to be treated migrate through the shaft largely in unison and that an uninterrupted column of items to be treated is maintained.
This is so so that the gases that are to flow transversely through the material to be treated actually pass through it and do not, for example, take their way through material-free spaces.
The intended goal is achieved according to the invention in a device of the type specified in that the throughput regulating devices in the shaft are formed at superimposed points by means of grids that penetrate the shaft across its entire clear width from a single layer of adjacent rods, each of which is mutually adjacent bars are displaceable in opposite horizontal movements, the mutual spacing of the bars is selected so that when they move in opposite directions the material to be treated trickles through, but when they come to a standstill, the trickling movement is largely prevented. The grate bars can be formed from flat upright profile rails or from oval tubes or flat tubes or drop-shaped profiled strips.
As far as the grate bars are kept hollow, gases or liquids can be introduced into the shaft by means of them, in that they have passage openings on the jacket side and are connected on the outside to corresponding lines. If necessary, suction can also be exerted on the item to be treated via the hollow grids. This is important, for example, if the material to be treated itself develops gases during the trickling process which are to be removed. It is also important when the liquid with which the gas has been wetted or sprinkled is to be sucked off again.
In some cases it may be advantageous if the grate bars can also be rotated about their axis of rotation in addition to being able to move back and forth. In addition, it is advisable to make the design so that the bars of a grate form two groups that can be driven from opposite sides, one group comprising the bars moved in a moment and the other group comprising the bars moved at the same moment. If the shaft is divided by transverse partitions, it is also advantageous to provide the grate groups adjacent to a transverse partition of the two shafts divided by this transverse partition so that they can be driven simultaneously in opposite directions from a common shaft via cams and springs. The grate drive is conveniently housed in a cavity in the transverse partition walls and sealed against moisture.
The shaking or oscillating movement of the grate bars can be achieved particularly advantageously if the grate bars are rubber-mounted with their ends facing away from the drive side in the transverse walls so that they can move horizontally.
When using the device according to the invention, a largely automatic malt production can be brought about, in which the cereals are placed in the top of the shaft and can be removed as finished brewing malt below.
In order to only carry out part of the treatment in the vertical flow process, if necessary,

from the drawing apparent sprinkling or suction devices are denoted by 65, 66 and 67; The throughput regulating devices are arranged above the same. The latter can be in reciprocating or also. be set in vibrating motion. They are designed in such a way that they largely prevent the flow of spillage when the machine is stationary, but promote the flow of spillage when in motion. Their vertical mutual spacing is chosen so that the vertical pressure caused by the weight of the pourable material is below the pressure load that is still permissible for the material to be treated.
They are formed by grate bars 68 and 69, as can be seen from FIG. 3 for a group combination. The grate bars can be formed, for example, from flat upright profile rails 70 (FIG. 4), oval tubes 71, flat tubes 72 or strips 73 with a teardrop-shaped profile. Of course, you can also get a different profile if necessary.
The movement of the grids causing the items to be treated can be achieved, for example, by pivoting the individual grate bars back and forth about their longitudinal axis. According to a preferred embodiment, however, the grids are moved horizontally back and forth. In this way, in the embodiment shown, the shaking movement of the grates is brought about. In the exemplary embodiment, the grids consist of two groups of rods that can be driven from opposite shaft sides. The grate bars belonging to one group of bars are denoted by 74 in FIG. 7, while the bars belonging to the other group of bars are denoted by 75. Each individual grate bar 74, 75 interacts with a cam wheel 76 or 77 (FIGS. 5, 6) that drives it.
It is pressed against its associated cam wheel by means of a spring 78 or 79, so that when it is rotated or pivoted it can be set in a reciprocating motion, as indicated by the arrows. The free ends of the grate bars are supported on elastic abutments 80 and 81 in the partition walls 63, 63 ′. From each cam wheel 76, 77, two grate bars projecting in opposite directions can be moved at the same time if the grate drive is accommodated within the partition walls 63, 63 ′, for example as follows. as shown in FIGS. 5 and 6. Thereafter, the partition walls are each penetrated by a shaft 82 and 83 at the level of the throughput regulating devices, these each carrying a cam wheel 76, 77 opposite the grate bars 74, 75.
The springs 78, 79 each connect the two grate bars which cooperate with a cam wheel and are located on the opposite side thereof.

The total required hot air c, which comes for example from the kiln furnace, is passed through the drying zone at 25'10 via the fan 151. The air d coming from here, together with 250/0 of the hot air c and a portion of fresh air e, is passed through the drying zone via the fan 152. The air flow f coming from here is guided to the smoldering zone. This is also fed 500/0 to the hot air c. In addition, preheated fresh air g and the waste heat h from the fire box as well as more or less fresh air i are fed to the simmering zone. The various gas flows b, c, f, g, h and i are guided through the trickling material in the area of the smoldering zone by means of the fan 153.
The gases k coming from the simmering zone are fed to the air preheater 154 in winter, spring and autumn, in which the fresh air g 'is preheated. The amount of preheated air g is set via the blind 155. In summer, the gases k are not fed to the air preheater 154.
The fresh air flow i is also adjusted by means of a blind, which is designated by 156.
This blind is opened in summer and throttled in winter.
When it enters the shaft, the green malt G has a humidity of approximately 430/0. This
Moisture has been reduced to about 230/0 at the end of the smoldering zone. It is around 12% at the end of the dry zone and around 3% at the end of the drying zone.
In order to obtain a simple, easy-to-use closure below the throughput regulating device, rotatable, axially immovable flaps 159 are arranged below the grate bars 158 (FIGS. 10-14) that can be moved to and fro, in the closure position shown with solid lines or in the one with dash-dotted lines Lines indicated opening position can be pivoted. In the closed position, their outer edges 160 touch one another, each above the axis of rotation 161 of a flap
159 there is a grate bar 158. Above the contact point 162, a further grate bar 158 'is provided in each case. All flaps 169 can be adjusted using a common linkage.
