probably the control of the rotational movement of the supporting devices forming the support surface as well as the
Trigger separation of sections of the same length of the strand. The signal from the display device can expediently also be used to synchronize processes that are to be carried out on the separated strand sections, for example for packaging processes.
If desired, the radiation source can contain a radioactive substance and the radiation receiver can be equipped with an ion chamber. This radiation source can emit SS or Y rays. The receiving device for the beam of ionizing rays can be, for example, a Geiger tube or a scintillation counter. The decrease in the intensity of the radiation reaching the receiving device when the extruded strand enters the beam path can be used to actuate an electrical relay which, via suitable electrical circuits, actuates the cutting devices and the devices for removing the cut strand piece from the
Controls the path of the advancing strand.
It can also be used to synchronize other processes that are to be carried out on the individual pieces of plastic material of the same length.
In the context of the invention, the display device can also consist of an electrode system arranged outside, but close to the feed path of the extruded strand, and an arrangement for measuring the capacitance of the field between the electrodes, which are arranged so that the entry of the predetermined part of the extruded strand The change in capacitance caused in the electric field triggers the separation and, in connection therewith, triggers the removal of the separated piece of material from the feed path of the advancing strand.
A preferred embodiment of the device according to the invention is described below with reference to the drawings. This device is designed for cutting continuously extruded, cylindrical strands made of plastic material into sections of equal length and is particularly suitable for cutting strands made of extruded explosive substances.
1-5 schematically illustrate the arrangement of the support device, which is provided with the support surfaces for the extruded strand of plastic material, and the display device used to control the cutting of this strand.
1 shows, in a partially cut-away side view, a strand of plastic material 1, which is pressed out of an extruder 2 of known type and is advanced along the support surface of a support device 5. As can be seen from FIGS. 2 and 3, the support device 5 has a support surface 3 and a similar support surface 4 in an inoperative position. It has an S-shaped cross section and is rigidly attached to a shaft 6, by means of which it can be rotated about its longitudinal axis. The display device indicated in FIG. 1 consists of a light source 7 which sends a light beam to a photoelectric cell 9 through a slot 8 in the support surface.
The position of the light source 7 and the photoelectric cell 9 can be changed so that the passage point of the light beam through the slit 8 at any predetermined point of the

FIG. 2 shows schematically in a plan view the same arrangement of the strand of plastic material 1, the extrusion machine 2 and the bearing surfaces 3 and 4.
3, 4 and 5 show, in a schematic representation, end views of the strand of plastic material 1 and of the support device 5 with the bearing surfaces 3 and 4, seen from the end adjacent to the extrusion press 2. FIG. 3 also illustrates how the carrying device 5 is rotated in order to cut off the extruded strand of plastic material 1 and to throw the separated section down through a conveyor chute 10 to a conveyor belt 11. Fig. 4 shows the position of the already mentioned light source and the photoelectric cell.
Fig. 5 shows the position of a differently designed display device, which is used in a modified, preferred embodiment of the device according to the invention instead of the photoelectric display device and consists of an electrode system in which the entry of the strand of plastic material into the electric field between the change in capacitance caused by the two electrodes is displayed. The plate 12 serves as an electrode and the support device 5 as a second electrode, the conductive connection between this second electrode and the feed line being established by a carbon brush 13 sliding on the shaft 6.
When the front end of the advancing strand of plastic material 1 reaches a point in which the strand interrupts the light beam of the display device shown in Fig. 1, the current of the photoelectric cell 9 also ceases, as a result of which via suitable electrical, pneumatic and mechanical control elements the shaft 6 is rotated quickly by 180, whereby a reverse
