Formaldehyd, Paraformaldehyd, Acetal- dehyd erhaiten.

Process for the production of a glue-like substance by evaporating sulphoellulose waste liquors.
 EMI1.1
glue-like substance from the waste liquors of the sulphite collulose production. It is well known that evaporation of the sulphite collulose lye to the syrup thickness results in a product which has comparatively painful properties. This evaporation of the collulose eye is, however, technically a very unpleasant operation, in that on the one hand salts precipitate during the evaporation, which, if evaporated over a fire or in a vacuum, give rise to pumping and thus also to losses and repairs, and on the other hand very much soon a skin forms on the surface of the liquid, which makes further evaporation extremely difficult.

So up to now one has to different
 EMI1.2
Sulfuric acid, resinous substances or the like. Or you have to construct your own evaporator for these alkalis. The subject of the present invention now forms a method which completely avoids these inconveniences and allows the lye to be evaporated in an open fire without any difficulty and an end product to be obtained which is a transparent, light, glue-like syrup of considerable adhesive power, which is in Water dissolves smoothly and completely discolored by treating alkalis. The method consists in that the alkalis before or during the evaporation, the addition of an aldehyde, z. B.

Formaldehyde, paraformaldehyde, acetaldehyde. For example, an addition of 3-50/0 of a 40% formaldehyde solution is sufficient for formaldehyde. What the effect of this additive is due to is not quite! transparent, there is some likelihood that the aldehyde will combine with the sulphurous acid salts as well as with the lignin substances contained in the solution to form bodies which are difficult or impossible to crystallize and which do not separate when evaporated. The product obtained can be subjected to further purification processes using known methods; it can be decolorized by alkalis,
