Automatic switch-off device for arc welding
The invention relates to an automatic switch-off device for arc welding with electrodes inserted into or resting on the workpiece.

The arc between the melting electrode and the object to be welded has so far been interrupted simply by the worker pulling the remainder of the electrode away from the welding point or by letting the arc burn between the remnant part of the electrode and the end of the welding bar, so that the Arch pulls out and finally goes out. However, this requires the presence of a worker who constantly observes the burning of the electrodes in order to perceive the correct moment when the weld seam has ended. It can happen that the welding is terminated prematurely, so that the weld seam has to be repaired by hand.

In the second case, a tooth-like burnout of the end of the welded workpiece occurs due to the expanding arc and the end of the welding bar is abnormally worn.

The present invention eliminates these disadvantages by means of a device for the automatic disconnection of the arc, in that an auxiliary circuit is used to interrupt it at a certain point on the welding electrode, which is closed by means of an auxiliary electrode which rests against a non-conductive sheath at the desired point on the welding electrode to operate the disconnection device as soon as the arc has approached or touched the auxiliary electrode.

The drawing shows the circuit diagram of an exemplary embodiment of the switching device according to the invention with an interrupted welding process, but with the electrode end still at a considerable distance from the auxiliary electrode.
 EMI1.1
the 6 is pressed against the non-conductive shell of the electrode 4 and which is connected via the line m to the relay 8 of the slot 7, which controls the contact 9 in the welding circuit and the contact 10 in the circuit Uz.

The welding system is put into operation by closing the pressure switch 12 by hand. The contactor 7 closes the contact 9 and thus the circuit of the welding unit 11 connected to the lines Ul via the welding electrode 4. If the burning arc has approached the auxiliary electrode during the welding process or touches it directly, the relay 8 receives the voltage of the welding person Arc, and interrupts the circuit of contactor 7 at contact ga, which in turn opens contacts 9 and 10. The welding current is now interrupted and the welding unit 11 runs empty. It is switched on again by actuating the pressure switch 12. The pressure switch 13 is used for permanent manual switching off.
