Diese wie angegeben bereiteten Sulfoverbindungen, z. B. das Cuprobariumsulfopolythionat, werden zur Herstellung der Tunke in gewöhnlicher Weise, also unter Zusatz eines Oxydationsmittels, benutzt.
Bei Verwendung dieser Sulfoverbindungen ist die Tunke tagelang haltbar und unempfindlich gegen Erwärmen ; sie gibt sehr feste, am Zeug und an den rauhesten Reibeflachen leicht entzündbare Köpfe ; sie bedarf als Bindemittel nicht der teueren Gelatine und auch keiner giftigen Bleiverbindungen und ausserdem wird ein langsames, ruhiges Abbrennen des Kopfes erzielt.
Im folgenden ist als Beispiel die Zusammensetzung einer brauchbaren Zündmasse gegeben, wobei hervorgehoben wird, dass unter Beibehaltung der Sulfoverbindungen der Polythionate, z. B. des Cuprobariumpolythionats, als hauptsächlichsten Bestandteil, natürlich viele Abänderungen möglich sind.
