<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Handbrake. especially for motor vehicles or trailers
The invention relates to a handbrake, in particular for motor vehicles or trailers. In the interests of traffic safety, the so-called response time when the brakes are applied should be as short as possible. To overcome the clearance between the brake shoes and the drums and in the transmission parts, only a small amount of force is required, but a relatively long distance. When the brake shoes are in contact with the drums, a great deal of force is required over a short distance.
The handbrake according to the invention, the lever of which is designed as a double-armed lever, the longer arm of which is used as a handle has a ratchet locking mechanism for fixing the brake, whereas the tension member used to transmit the braking force engages on the other, shorter arm, is essentially characterized by: that the shorter arm is angled against the longer arm and has a protruding cam track on its side face facing away from the longer lever arm, on which the tension member rolls and whose distance from the pivot axis of the double lever increases in the direction of the pulling direction.
In this way, the translation on the handbrake lever changes so that the hand force is first transmitted with a small translation in order to overcome the clearance. In the second phase of the actuation process, the manual force is then transmitted with a significantly larger, almost or completely constant translation.
In one embodiment of the handbrake according to the invention, the tension member is provided with at least one joint and, in the release position of the lever, only engages the outer end of the lever arm with the greatest distance from the pivot axis, the hinge point in the tension member being arranged so that the latter around the provided on the lever arm cam can be guided around. When the lever is tightened by a certain amount, the tension member then comes to rest at another point, which is much closer. to the pivot axis. The hinge point in the tension member is arranged so that the latter can be guided around the second contact surface.
According to a further feature of the invention, the tension member consisting of a cable is provided in a manner known per se with a cylindrical end piece which is passed through an opening at the outermost end of the curved lever arm and inserted into a fork-shaped holder and z. B. is secured against slipping out by a leaf spring.
The handbrake lever can be pivotably mounted on a bushing mounted in a holding segment, with a fastening screw passed through the bushing both axially securing the handbrake lever and screwing the holding segment to the chassis. At a corner point of the holding segment, near a fastening screw, an abutment is arranged in which the hose casing of the cable pull is supported.
The hand brake according to the invention is shown in the drawing in two embodiments.
Fig. 1 shows the handbrake lever in side view, partly in section. FIG. 2 shows an end view, FIG. 3 shows a top view, FIG. 4 shows another embodiment with an articulated pull rod.
The lower end 2 of the hand brake lever 1 is angled and curved so that the pull rope 3 can roll on it. A cylindrical end piece 4 is pressed onto the end of the pull rope 3.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
For some areas of application of the hand brake lever, it is desirable if the pull rope can be quickly separated from the lever and reconnected to it without the aid of tools, even by untrained personnel. For this purpose, the end of the lever part 2 has an obliquely arranged bore 6 through which the end piece 4 can be passed in order to then be fastened in a fork-shaped holder 7. A leaf spring 8 pushes the end of the cable into the holder and prevents undesired uncoupling when the cable is relaxed. A tubular sheath 9 is supported in a convex abutment 10, so that unnecessary friction of the pull rope 3 in the end piece of the tubular sheath is avoided.
The abutment 10 is arranged at a corner point of the fixing segment 11, which at the same time carries a fastening eye for screwing the handbrake lever onto the chassis. The supporting force of the hose sleeve 9 against the bearing 10 is in this way reliably absorbed by the holding segment 11 in the form of an irregular square and transferred to the chassis frame with the least amount of material. In another corner point 12, the handbrake lever 1 is pivotably mounted on a cylindrical sleeve. A fastening screw passed through this bushing is used to screw the segment and the lever onto the chassis.
This combination of the fastening point 12 with the mounting of the lever 1 results in an economical shape and low manufacturing costs.
In the embodiment according to FIG. 4, the hand brake lever 1 is also angled with its lower end 2. A pull rod 13 is hinged to the lever at 14 and is supported in the position shown against the extension 15 so that the manual force is transmitted to the brake with the greatest translation. The release position is indicated by dashed lines. In this the linkage 13 does not come into contact with the extension 15.
