<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

The invention relates to a non-return valve for an injection unit of an injection molding machine, the non-return valve in the area of the screw tip of the plasticizing screw having a displaceable, preferably annular valve body, which in a first position has a material path for the plasticized material outside the screw tip, preferably through groove-shaped recesses in the screw tip releases and which is in a second position on a valve seat to prevent backflow of the material.
Such non-return valves are already known, for example from the international application PCT / AT96 / 00184 or US Pat. No. 5, 167, 971A. In the known non-return valves, the material throughput on the material path is past the screw tip (this material path preferably runs through groove-shaped recesses on the outside in of the screw tip) and can no longer be increased due to the geometric conditions given the screw diameter.
In order nevertheless to achieve an increased material throughput, the invention provides that in addition to the material path provided on the outside of the screw tip, a further material path in the form of at least one channel running through the screw tip is provided.
In addition to the material path running outside the screw tip, a further parallel material path, a bypass, so to speak, is created through the inside of the screw tip, with which material can flow both outside the screw tip and through the screw tip, that is to say a total of more material can flow .
The further material path naturally also requires the functionality of a non-return valve, i. H. that the material can only flow in one direction. In order to achieve this, it is provided according to a first preferred embodiment that the channel or channels run in such a way that the preferably annular valve body in its second position prevents material from flowing back through the channel or channels (FIG. 1). In this embodiment, the annular valve body thus serves not only to open and close the material path leading outside the screw tip, but also
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
at the same time also for opening and closing the channel-shaped bypass according to the invention.
In a second embodiment, a non-return valve itself can be arranged in the bypass channel in order to prevent the material from flowing back.
Further advantages and details are explained in more detail with reference to the following description of the figures.
1 shows a non-return valve according to the invention at the front area of a plasticizing screw, the screw cylinder surrounding this plasticizing screw not being shown in any more detail.
Fig. 2 shows another embodiment also in a partially broken longitudinal section.
In the exemplary embodiment shown in FIG. 1, axial groove-shaped recesses 3 are provided in the screw tip 1 of the plasticizing screw 2, which provide a material path for the plasticized material on the outside past the screw tip 1. To realize a non-return valve, an annular valve body 4 which is axially displaceable in the direction of the double arrow 5 is provided. This is in FIG. 1 in the first position, in which it releases a material path from the plasticizing screw 2 past the valve seat 6 through the groove-shaped recesses 3.
In a second position, not shown, the valve body 4 lies against the valve seat 6 and thus prevents plasticized material from flowing back in front of the screw tip towards the actual plasticizing screw 2.
So far, the non-return valve is essentially state of the art and therefore need not be described in more detail.
According to the invention, in addition to the material path described through the groove-shaped recesses 3, a further material path in the form of channels 7 is provided which run through the interior of the screw tip. In terms of production technology, these channels are composed of straight bores and represent a bypass that allows an additional material flow. In the exemplary embodiment shown in FIG. 1, the inlet openings 8 of the channels are arranged in such a way that no backflow through the channels 7 is possible when the valve body is in the second position.
Here he needs
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Valve body 4 does not lie directly on the inlet openings 8, rather it is sufficient if the valve body rests on the valve seat 6 so that no material can flow back through the channels 7 and the inlet openings 8 back to the actual plasticizing screw.
In the exemplary embodiment shown in FIG. 2, the channels 7 according to the invention are also provided, but there the inlet openings 8 ′ open further to the rear, that is to say closer to the actual plasticizing screw 2, so that they can no longer be closed by movable valve bodies 4. Therefore, a non-return valve (here a spring-loaded ball 9) is provided in the front area of the central channel 7 in order to achieve a non-return valve overall.
