<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Device for dip coating of continuously moving objects
The invention relates to a device for immersion coating of objects, in which the objects to be coated move along a circular arc-shaped path through the coating composition arranged in a container.
In a known device of this type, the diving is carried out with the help of a special, curved cam, while in another known arrangement, a support band for the objects to be coated moves essentially along a vertical path through the container containing the bath. In these devices there were high relative speeds between the coating composition arranged in the container and the objects to be coated with it, as a result of which a non-uniform coating is obtained on the objects.
According to the invention, this disadvantage is eliminated in that the guide device for the objects to be coated consists of a flexible strip to which the objects are attached and which is uniformly arranged over a circular arc guide inclined above the bath at a small angle to the horizontal runs, and that the container, which is preferably designed as a ring trough, is arranged in or on a rotor which rotates around a vertical axis running approximately through the center of the circular arc guide at a constant angular speed, so that the tangential speed of the bath in the container on the immersion section the local horizontal speed of the objects is approximately the same.
The circular arc guide expediently consists of a guide disk which rotates in the same direction as the container and whose axis is inclined at a small angle relative to the axis of the container.
Further features and advantages of the invention emerge from the description and the drawing, which show an exemplary embodiment of an immersion device according to the invention.
The paper strip 1 carries the capacitors 2 to be immersed in a viscous mass and is guided around the guide disk 3. The bath is introduced via a nozzle 6 by means of a pump 7 into an annular trough 4 which is formed in the rotor. The pump 7 is located in a container 8. The bath overflowing from the trough 4 returns to the container 8 through the hollow shaft 9. A sprocket 10 is assigned to the disk 3; a universal joint J 1 connects the axes of the disk 3 and the rotor 5. The strip 1 carrying the finished capacitors 2 is wound onto the reel 12.
The angle at which the circular arc guide 3 is inclined to the horizontal is approximately 100; the angle can be adjusted in order to change the immersion depth of the objects, and it can be enlarged, whereby a predetermined immersion depth can be achieved with a guide of a relatively small diameter. The maximum angle is determined by the permissibility of the resulting relative speed of the objects in the liquid, which is produced on the one hand by the vertical component of the speed at the moment of immersion and on the other hand by the change in the horizontal component of this speed during the passage of the object through the liquid.
The latter component can, however, be partially influenced by moving the center point of the circular arc guide 3 to the axis of rotation of the container 4 in the direction in which
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
the objects to be coated reach their greatest immersion depth; at this point there is almost no vertical component of the speed, and the horizontal speed component reaches the greatest value. In this case, the axis of rotation of the container is further away from this point than from the points at which the objects enter or leave the bath surface. step out.
The flexible strip 1 can be designed as a paper strip or other belt-like carrier. The objects can also be hung on it so that the pane 3 can be arranged entirely outside the bath.
The bath liquid is expediently kept at a certain level, in particular when a skin-like coating is to be created. In this case, the liquid is supplied in a greater mass than it is consumed; In this way, there is a constant overflow along the edge of the bath, and the overflowing liquid is collected for reuse.
In the embodiment shown, the inner wall of the trough 4 is somewhat lower than the outer edge, and it settles into a funnel-like surface which serves to discharge the overflowing bath liquid through the hollow shaft 9.
The lower edge of the disc 3 is just above the bath surface and the capacitors or the like. Objects to be coated are attached at such a distance from the edge of the paper strip that only their
EMI2.1
reach, are reached or almost reached the surface of the disc.
The disk is driven at a speed that corresponds to the speed of the paper strip.
As a result, the bath as well as the submerged objects move during the actual diving time with their horizontal velocities, which are almost the same in both direction and size. In other words, the movement of the objects in relation to the bath takes place almost exclusively in the vertical direction and its maximum value, which occurs when the strip just comes into contact with the pane or leaves the pane, is approximately 1/6 of that Speed of the paper strip. In order to reduce the risk of dripping and the associated loss of covering material, this is expediently heated in the trough by an electrical heating element which is installed in the wheel 5.
In addition, the outgoing strip is rotated once about its axis on its way to the next guide element.
Due to the lower temperature of the bath, when the objects are lifted out of the bath, a film is formed almost immediately, which prevents the loss of covering material through dripping. The subsequent reversal of the objects prevents the covering material from building up on one of their sides.
The strip is later wound on reels with a horizontal axis; the revolving of these coils during winding results in a continuous reversal of the objects during the subsequent drying process. Is a bobbin full. so, after the machine has been withdrawn, it is rotated further until the covering is at least so dry that it is prevented from shifting noticeably.
