<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Die verschiedenen obigen Beispiele zeigen die Vielseitigkeit des Verfahrens in bezug auf verschiedene gesättigte Kohlenwasserstoffe ;

Method and device for the production of unsaturated hydrocarbons
The invention relates to a method and a device for generating unsaturated hydrocarbons from saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbons, preferably from a hydrocarbon with 1 to 4 carbon atoms in the molecule or a mixture of hydrocarbons as found in natural gas by partial oxidation thereof.
Processes have been proposed for the production of acetylene by the partial oxidation of hydrocarbons, but in such processes the reaction time is not short enough to cause substantial losses of the acetylene produced.
EMI1.1
Yields obtained.
In a known method, a mixture of preheated hydrocarbon gas (natural gas) and oxygen in a non-stoichiometric ratio is passed through a plate provided with many openings and ignited there, the plate serving as a flame holder. The hot products of combustion, containing acetylene, are rapidly cooled in the water and the acetylene is then separated from the other products of combustion. In this method, a gas flow rate of approximately 92 m / sec is used during mixing; the method has various operational difficulties such as preignition, clogging of the flame holder parts and the like. Like., on what sources of error are associated.
According to the invention, the process in which a stream of gaseous hydrocarbons and a stream of a gaseous oxidizing agent are separately preheated, these streams of the preheated gases in a volume ratio of hydrocarbon to oxidizing agent of 0.7: 1.0 to 2.0:
1, 0 mixed with one another, this mixture is introduced into a reaction zone at a speed that is greater than the flame speed in the burning mixture and ignites and burns in this, whereupon the reaction products obtained flowing out of the reaction zone are cooled, carried out so that one mixes the preheated gas streams at a flow velocity with a Mach number greater than 0.5 and that the reaction time between the point of ignition and the point of cooling is between 1 and 4 thousandths of a second.
The term "Mach number" as used refers to the ratio of the linear gas velocity of the mixture to the speed of sound in the same mixture at a given temperature and gas composition.
The gases are preheated separately to temperatures between 400 and 900 C in a manner known per se.
A device suitable for carrying out the method according to the invention is shown in the drawing; Fig. 1 shows a longitudinal section of the mixer, Fig. 2 shows a schematic representation of the preheater, the mixer, the reaction zones and the cooling device in the system.
As shown in the drawing, a stream of an oxidizing agent, such as oxygen, is passed through a line 10 to a heater 12 where it is preheated to approximately 600.degree. The preheated stream is then brought to mixer 18 through line 16. Co-current therewith, a stream of saturated hydrocarbon-containing gas is passed through line 20 to heater 22 where it is preheated to approximately 850.degree. C. and brought into mixer 18 through line 24.
The mixer 18 consists of a hollow cylindrical outer part 26 which is provided with inlets 16 and 24 for the oxidizing agent and the hydrocarbon, respectively. In the part 26 an inner cylindrical injector 32 is arranged which completes the means for the collision of the oxidant and hydrocarbon streams.
The preheated stream of oxidant enters through the inlet opening 16 and flows through the tube 36 of the injector 32 (rosette type) and is guided outwards into the conical part of the injector 32 through a series of radially arranged mixing openings 42. Co-current therewith, the preheated hydrocarbon-containing stream entering through inlet 24 flows through the annular space 44 between injector 32 and outer part 26 and is passed through a conically shaped hydrocarbon ring 46 which extends across the outflow
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
end of the mixing opening 42, preferably at an angle of 90 J, extends inwards.
When the two gas streams collide, mixing takes place at high speed, which continues until the conical gas stream enters the mixing tube. This type of mixing is very turbulent and therefore has a high degree of efficiency. The mixture passes the mixing tube 50 and flows out of the outlet end of the mixer into the reaction chamber 52 where partial oxidation is initiated by a flame holder. It goes without saying that the flow of the hydrocarbon can be conducted through the inner part of the injector: 12 and the flow of the oxidizing agent through the annular intermediate space 46.
In order to achieve the best efficiency, however, it is preferable to pass the hydrocarbon, which has the greater volume, through the annular space.
The combustion reaction is initiated by a suitable flame holder. In the
EMI2.1
holder from a congestion or delay zone, which is formed by the sharply expanded entry into the reaction zone. The rapid flame spread across the entire flow of mixed gas is promoted by the turbulence within. The reaction zone is equipped with a ceramic wall 51. It can be assumed that the hot ceramic walls help to hold the flame. In this way, violent combustion of the entire reacting gas stream is achieved in the reaction chamber 52. At the outlet end for the stream, suitable quenching means 54, e.g. B. od a spray arrangement for cold water, a cooling gas inlet. Like. Provided.
A collector (not shown) is arranged to collect the reaction products, which are then treated to remove the acetylene from the other combustion products.
The mixer 18 is also provided with means for circulating a coolant such as water. A flow of coolant enters through inlet conduit 58 and exits injector 32 through an outlet conduit as shown in the drawing.
The parts 26 and 32 of the mixer 18, the reactor 64 and the cooling section 65 are secured together by threaded parts so that the parts of the mixer can be disassembled for cleaning and repairing the ceramic liner 51.
The preheated, oxidizing gas and the preheated hydrocarbon gas are introduced into the mixer in a suitable mixing ratio such that a non-stoichiometric mixture with a volume ratio of hydrocarbon to oxygen of preferably between about 1: 1 to 2.0: 1, for methane preferably 1.6 : I to 2, 0: 1 is formed. In general, volume ratios between 0.7: 1 and 2: 1 can be used. In order to obtain the speed of sound or approximate speed of sound in the composite gas streams and the gaseous mixture, careful regulation of the gas pressure at various points in the mixer is necessary. It was z.
B. found that the ratio of the inlet pressure to the outlet pressure across the annular mixing passage 46 should be about 2: 1 so that when the mixture flows out into the mixing tube 50, sound
EMI2.2
Sound speed is reached. Accordingly, for a pressure of about 1.1 to 1.4 kg / cm maintained at the inlet of the mixing chamber, a gas stagnation pressure of about 2.2 to 2.8 kgfcm 2 is required at the inlet of the mixing passage 46 in order to achieve an outlet speed of the mixture into the mixing tube 50, which corresponds to the speed of sound.
In the same way, in order to achieve the desired speed of sound or approximate speed of sound of the oxidizing agent through the openings 42 of the injector, it is necessary to maintain a pressure ratio of about 2: 1 across these openings. For a static pressure of 1.75 kgfcm2 at the outlet of these openings, a blocking pressure of 3.5kg / cm2 is required in the supply line 36 for the oxidizing agent.
It has been found that complete and intimate mixing of the oxidant and the hydrocarbon stream in the mixer can be achieved before the mixture is discharged into the reaction zone. This mixing is achieved at extraordinarily high flow velocities, as a result of which the transition time of the gases in the mixer, during which heat can be lost through the burner walls, is greatly reduced. becomes.
Another advantage of mixing carried out at high speed lies in the fact that the acceleration of the gas flows in the mixer is accompanied by an adiabatic lowering of the gas temperature. This results from the conversion of thermal energy into kinetic energy of the gas flow. Since this phenomenon is reversible, the kinetic energy is converted into thermal energy when the gas velocity is reduced. For the mixtures of methane and oxygen used in partial oxidation is
EMI2.3
the original absolute temperature.
Carrying out the mixing at high speed also allows the mixing and guiding of larger volumes of the reacting gases per unit of time than was possible with corresponding devices for processes proceeding at lower speeds. Furthermore, performing the mixing at high speed enables the mixed gases to be vigorously burned in an open low pressure duct without the problems of backlash. A violent burn has the advantages of simpler setup,
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
easier cleaning and repair and a high degree of efficiency.
It is known that a reaction proceeding at high temperature is very advantageous for achieving high acetylene yields in the partial oxidation of hydrocarbons. For this reason, in known processes, the reactants were preheated. The amount of pre-heating that could be achieved without pre-ignition was limited by the method of mixing the reactants.
According to the method according to the invention, in which the mixing takes place at high speeds and is accompanied by a controlled temperature decrease, the probability of burning in the mixing zone is reduced; the reactants can therefore be heated to much higher temperatures; these are limited only by the difficulties arising from oxidation and pyrolysis.
After the mixture of the hydrocarbon and the oxidizing agent, which is intimately mixed in the non-stoichiometric ratio, has flowed out of the mixing tube at a speed above the flame speed, the mixture is ignited and the partial oxidation is initiated. The gaseous mixture flows through the mixer at a higher velocity than the linear flame velocity; it is not possible to regulate the position of the flame without holding the flame. Since the distance (time) between flame ignition and cooling due to the decomposition of acetylene is critical, it is necessary that a flame holder is provided to hold the flame in a certain position. A congestion zone, a hot wall, a glowing plug, a pilot flame or the like can be used as a suitable flame holder.
After ignition, the gaseous mixture burns according to the partial oxidation reaction to acetylene, hydrogen, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, water vapor, in addition to unreacted reactants and residues. The reaction pressure should be kept as low as practically possible in order to obtain the best yields of acetylene and should be slightly above atmospheric pressure, i. H. in the order of magnitude of 1.1 to 1.4 kg / cm2.
The products of the partial oxidation reaction are rapidly cooled by passing through a zone in which a water spray device, cold gas stream or similar coolant is provided in order to lower the temperature to a value below the decomposition temperature of the acetylene. The gaseous products are then collected and treated with solvents to extract the acetylene from the other mixture components.
According to an example of the method according to the invention, 7.2 m3 / hour of natural gas, preheated to 645 C, at a pressure of 4.7 kg / cm2 at approximately the speed of sound, with 5.00 m3 / hour of oxygen, preheated to 490 C, at one pressure of 11.5 kgfcm2, using a rosette injection mixer from Alt, as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing. The intimate mixture of the gases was allowed to flow out of the mixing tube into the combustion chamber at a speed above the flame speed and ignited by a shoulder-shaped projection acting as a flame holder at the connection of the mixing nozzle with the reaction tube carrying a ceramic lining.
The internal pressure in the reactor was 1.1 kg / cm2, the combustion temperature was 1437 C and the quenching device was arranged at a distance of 14.9 cm from the mixer inlet. The gas obtained contained 7.1% by volume of unsaturated components including 6.9% by volume of acetylene.
The gases generated were not all cooled in this experiment, but only the sample axially removed from the reactor and quenched with the water was cooled.
The composition of the natural gas used, which was determined by mass spectrometer analysis, was as follows:

The various examples above demonstrate the versatility of the process with respect to various saturated hydrocarbons;
The individual tests were carried out in very small burners, which, because of the high ratio of wall area to cross section, resulted in a high thermal loss through their walls as a result of their low thermal capacity. This was manifested in relatively low yields of acetylene.
In a further example of the method according to the invention, 455 m3 / hour were measured

The intimate mixture of these gases was released into the mixing chamber at approximately the speed of sound and ignited by the flame holder. The gaseous combustion products were rapidly cooled by a spray of water so that the reaction time between igniting the mixture and quenching was less than 0.003 seconds.
