EMI1.1

Austrian PATENT LETTER Nix 16592.
EMI1.1
Method and device for the production of axle capsules which are closed on the one hand and flanged on the other in two operations.
In the previously known method for the production of flanged axle capsules, the piece of iron or steel to be machined was first provided with a reinforcement in the horizontal direction in two operations at the point intended for the capsule. Then the sleeve was forged out of this advanced piece by means of a mandrel, u. xw. This cut out had to be done because pre-punching in the previous machining did not take place in the first or in the second die, nor in several dies. For this reason, the complete manufacture of the capsule could not be carried out with a heat. In addition, the product after this process was an open axle capsule in which the flange still had to be machined.
The present invention now relates to a method and a device. which allows the production of closed axle capsules on the one hand and flange caps on the other in two operations and in the same heat. The same is characterized by the fact that a piece of iron or Steel of sufficient length and suitable cross-section placed upright in a lower die and first of all while simultaneously yorloping the flange! l is pre-compressed outside the lower joint and that the final pulling out of the sleeve and the final upsetting of the flange immediately in the same heat, u. between only a single, additional pair of dies.
The new procedure is therefore neither similar to the early acquaintances, nor is it only reversed

Lower die b is inserted firmly upright, the cross-section of which it roughly adapts, but which it protrudes so far that there is a little more material above than is necessary for forging the flange, the preliminary formation and perforation of which is carried out by the first upper die provided with a short mandrel . As the
Drawing shows, the Obergosenk a is around the short spine e with a ratio mäj. iig deep recess for the flange to be formed.
The depth of the same, together with the recess present in the lower die, should be larger than the thickness of the flange to be produced.
On the pair of dies c and d, the depth of the recess for the flange is smaller than on the die a, while the mandrel 9 corresponds to the hollow spaces to be produced in the axle capsule. The work piece pre-forged by the first pair of dies (FIG. 3) is now inserted into the lower die d in such a way that it rests with the pre-formed flange on it, while the bottom of the pre-forged sleeve is free below.
