<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Liquid atomizer pump
The invention relates to a pump for liquid atomizers of the known type, in which the piston sleeve is moved back and forth under the action of a return spring in a guide sleeve above the stationary piston, and essentially consists in that the piston rod is designed as a compressed air delivery tube and is attached to the the end facing away from the piston is provided with a thread for connection to the pressure line leading to the atomizer container. A locking ring, which is inserted into a groove in the piston sleeve near the inner end thereof, prevents the piston sleeve from sliding off under the action of the return spring. The disk-shaped piston comprises a leather packing, a spring washer corresponding to the shape of this packing, which is slotted to form radial lobes.
When this spring washer rests against the leather packing, the radial tabs close to form a full, elastic ring. The double function assigned to the stationary piston rod according to the invention, namely, on the one hand, to guide the reciprocating piston sleeve and, on the other hand, to serve as a compressed air delivery pipe, simplifies the design of the pump considerably, especially if the outer, spherical end of the piston sleeve has a small opening which is released and closed alternately when the pump is operated by hand.
An embodiment of a liquid atomizer equipped with the pump according to the invention for atomizing liquid perfume is shown in the drawing, u. 1 shows the longitudinal section through a piston pump according to the invention, connected to a container for the liquid to be atomized, shown in a view, FIG. 2 shows the longitudinal section through the guide sleeve, FIG. 3 shows the end view of the guide sleeve, FIG. 4 shows the cross section through a detail, namely a resilient disk, FIG. 5 the resilient disk in front view, FIG. 6 a longitudinal section through one end of the piston rod and FIG. 7 the view of the end of the piston rod.
The pump shown in the drawing in an atomizer arrangement comprises a piston sleeve 1 and a piston, consisting of an inner disc 2, an outer disc 3, a leather packing 4 and a resilient disc 5. The piston is attached to one end of the piston rod, which is a continuous Has bore 7. The other end of the piston rod

is. The end of the piston rod penetrating this slot 9 has a cross-sectional shape that is adapted to the slot so that the piston rod 6 cannot rotate in the guide sleeve 8. The end of the piston rod protruding through the slot 9 is screwed to the end of the pressure tube 10 by means of a thread 11 provided at the end of the piston rod which engages in a corresponding thread at the end of the tube 10.
A compression spring 12 is arranged in the piston sleeve 1 and rests on the one hand against the closed end of the sleeve 1 and on the other hand against the piston disk 2. Too far outward movement of the sleeve, which would lift the sleeve completely off the piston, is prevented by the locking ring 13, which is inserted into an annular groove in the sleeve 1. The piston parts 2 to 5 are clamped together at the remote end of the piston rod, u. between the flange-like end 14 and the shoulder 14 '.
The interior 15 of the piston sleeve 1 between the piston and the rounded end of the sleeve forms a pressure chamber which is in communication with the atmosphere through the central opening 16.
In the design described, the pump forms a unit that can easily be connected to the pressure pipe, u. betw. by simply screwing the protruding end of the piston rod to the threaded end of the tube 10 which has a nipple 17 at the other end, with which the pump is attached to the container 18 for the liquid to be atomized (e.g.
Perfume) can be connected.
The assembly of the different parts of the piston chamber is done in a simple way as follows:
The outer disc 3, the cup-shaped leather packing 4, the resilient disc 5 and the inner disc 2 are applied to the offset end of the piston rod 6 and clamped together between the end 14 and the shoulder 14 ′ as described. The slots on the perimeter
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
of the disc 5 make it possible for the disc to be inserted with the necessary pretension, so that after the insertion, the elasticity of the leather packing is supported by the elasticity of the disc. The piston is now inserted into the piston sleeve 1 into which the compression spring 12 was previously inserted.
Then the radial lobes of the disc 5 are bent over so that they form a full ring that adjoins one another and presses against the wall of the cup-shaped leather pack so that permanent sealing is ensured. Then the locking ring. M inserted into the groove of the piston sleeve 1, the guide sleeve 8 put on and finally the entire unit screwed onto the pressure line 10. Only a single screw connection is therefore required for the entire arrangement, which considerably reduces the manufacturing costs. Another advantage is that, thanks to the screw connection, each part can be easily replaced. The pump is unscrewed from the pressure line by turning the guide sleeve.
The operation of the piston pump described is basically the same as that of an ordinary piston pump. The piston sleeve 1 acts as a movable member when an inwardly directed pressure is exerted on the spherical end thereof in order to move the sleeve 1 into the guide sleeve 8. Since the piston 3 to 5 is fixedly arranged, the inward movement of the sleeve 1 continuously reduces the volume of the pressure chamber 15, so that the compressed air flows through the bore 7 into the pressure tube 10. The inward movement lasts until the edge of the piston sleeve 1 strikes against the closed end of the guide sleeve 8.
Then the opening 16, which was closed during the inward movement of the sleeve 1, is released again, so that the compression spring 12 now pushes the piston sleeve 1 back into the starting position. As a result of the pressure drop in the chamber 15, fresh air is sucked in through the opening 16. The opening 16 is arranged in the spherical end of the sleeve 1 in order to facilitate the closing of the opening during the inward movement of the sleeve 1.
