<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Device for casting metals.
The invention relates to devices for casting metals, in which the casting metal is removed from the Sehmelztiegel under the exclusion of air and is also fed to the casting mold under the exclusion of air via a closed channel and piston system under mechanical pressure, and in particular has an embodiment of such a device as its object, which makes them suitable for use in die casting. So far you have the ones needed for this purpose
EMI1.1
is ordered, and from which the metal is also transferred directly into the molds in the absence of air under mechanical pressure.
The metal flows into the mold from below under a pressure of a preferably manually operated casting piston corresponding approximately to the usual static pressure; a riser or a lost head is not necessary at all, the sprue can be kept extremely small. After removal of a slide closing off the pouring channel at the confluence of the sprue channel, the sprue can also be removed immediately by the pouring piston before the casting is removed from the mold. In this way, very dense, sharply drained castings can be achieved and the casting process can be considerably accelerated compared to operation with a hand ladle.
The mold can either be arranged movably in a known manner on the casting table or a special holding and fastening device can be provided on the casting table, in which the mold is clamped.
Further features of a chill casting device according to the invention are briefly described below with reference to the drawing, which shows, in a purely schematic representation, a section through an exemplary embodiment of such a device.
The melting crucible 2 is built into the melting furnace 1 and is sealed off from the outside in airtight manner by a cover plate 3. Above the end plate 3, the casting table 4 is arranged, u. so that it forms, together with the end plate.'3, a housing-like intermediate piece that is also hermetically sealed from the outside on all sides. On the casting table is the mold, for example from the fixed mold half 5 and the direction. the pressure chamber axis movable mold half 6 and contains in its interior the space 7 required to form the casting.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Inside the housing formed by the table 4 and the end plate 3 there is a pressure chamber 8 in which the casting piston 9 is arranged to be longitudinally displaceable. The pressure space 10 of the casting chamber is directly connected to the interior of the filling chamber 11, which protrudes into the casting metal 12 located in the melting crucible and has an inflow opening 13. The filling piston M slides in the cylindrical filling chamber 11 and can be actuated from the outside by the lever 15 by means of a linkage 16 in such a way that it feeds the casting metal to the pressure chamber 10. The backward movement of the filling piston 14 into its starting position can be brought about by spring force.
The pressure chamber 10 is in direct connection with the interior of the mold through the short sprue channel Jy. On the side opposite the casting piston 9, the pressure chamber 10 is closed during the casting process by a movable slide 18, which at the same time forms the outer boundary of the sprue and can be pushed to the side by means of the lever 19.
The casting piston 9 is connected via the rack 20 to a pinion 21 which can be rotated by the lever 22, whereby the casting piston can be pushed back and forth within the pressure chamber. As a result, the casting metal present in the space 10 is first pressed into the mold and kept under pressure during the solidification process; After the end of the casting process, the slide 18 is pushed to the side and, by further advancing the casting piston 9, the sprue residue is separated and ejected at point 23, falling into the inclined channel 24 and being fed through this to the collecting container 26.
The melting furnace 1 has a closable opening, not shown in the drawing, through which fresh metal can be fed to the crucible 2.
If, with regard to the metal used or the casting process, it is desired to maintain a constant temperature within the pressure chamber 10, a suitable liquid or gaseous heating or cooling medium can be passed through the cavity 26 surrounding the pressure chamber 8. Furthermore, if the nature of the casting metal makes this necessary, the space 26 and also the interior space 27 of the crucible located above the liquid level can either be placed under negative pressure or vacuum or filled with neutral, non-oxidizable gases in order to avoid any impairment of the nature of the casting metal avoid contact with air.
The use of the new casting device is of course not limited to easily oxidizing metals; rather, it can also be used appropriately for any other metals and alloys. Furthermore, depending on the nature of the metal used, the filling device and the carrying device can be made from materials that are not attacked by the casting metal, for example aluminum, and its vapors.
