By introducing ether-alcohol residues into sulfonic acids of the higher molecular weight imidazolines or tetrahydropyrimidines, these sulfonic acids, which are sparingly soluble in dilute acids, can be made soluble therein. Ether-alcohol residues can also be introduced into imidazolines or tetrahydropyrimidines of the type mentioned by condensation of the latter with monohalogen compounds of polyhydric aliphatic alcohols. Oxyalkylation products of benzimidazoles for use as textile auxiliaries have already been prepared (British Patent No. 443551). The products of the present process are superior to these alkoxylated benzimidazoles in their textile chemical properties; they show, for example, a better softening effect for rayon and a better degreasing effect when washing wool soaked with olive oil.
