Process for the preparation of water-insoluble azo dyes.
It has been found that valuable dyes can be obtained if the diazo compounds of substituted 4-amino-diphenylamines of the general formula are used
EMI1.1
wherein X is an alkyl, alkyloxy group or halogen, couples with arylidene of 2,3-oxynaphthoic acid. The dyes obtainable in this way can be produced in bulk or by one of the known methods on the fiber.
Compared to those known from German Patent No. 527634, using 4-amino-2, 5-dichloro-2 ', 4'-dinitro-diphenylamine or 4-amino-2, 5-dimethyl-2' -nitro-5 '-chloro-diphenyl-amine or using the 4-amino-2, 5-dimethoxy-2', 4'-dinitro-diphenylamine produced as diazo components of the same type, the new dyes are known from French patent specification No. 735365 characterized by increased lightfastness.
Examples: 1. Bleached cotton piece goods are made with a solution that

4.45 parts of 2,5-diethoxy-2 ', 4-dinitro-5'-chlorodiphenylamine-4-diazoniunichlorids are mixed with 40 parts of 50%. H. iger acetic acid made into a paste and then dissolved in 1500 parts of water. The diazo solution thus obtained runs at 10-150 C to a solution which

contains. After the diazo solution has run in, the mixture is stirred for a further 1/4 hour, then made alkaline by adding 250 parts of 2 / n soda solution, stirring is continued for 1 hour, suction filtered and washed neutral.
The bluish black dye obtained in this way can, advantageously in the form of a paste, be processed into a valuable pigment using one of the most common substrates.
The process can be carried out in the same or a similar manner with other diazo compounds of this type and other arylides of 2,3-oxynaphthoic acid.
