<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Device for converting a linkage transmission ratio on vehicle brakes, in particular
Railway car brakes.
The invention relates to such braking devices on vehicles, the braking force of which can be adapted to the load on the vehicle in that the transmission ratio of one or more levers of the brake linkage can be changed by hand. For this purpose, a brake lever can interact either with a number of stops that can be switched on and off, each corresponding to a transmission ratio, or with a single stop that can be switched into different effective positions. These devices have the property in common that when the brake is applied, the linkage ratio change cannot be changed, since in this state the effective stop is loaded by the braking force and clamped.
But it is desirable to use the handle for actuating the translation change even when the brake is applied, e.g. B. in the brake test before the departure of a freight train to be able to switch without having to wait for the brake to be released. The corresponding change in the gear ratio itself should then take place automatically after the brake is released. Devices for this purpose are already known in the case of braking devices with stops that can be switched on and off, each corresponding to a transmission ratio. B. by the German patent specification No. 638703. These known devices are only arranged for two layers, correspondingly one or. deactivated stop. In the case of braking devices with more than two braking force levels, this fact has the disadvantage that, if z.
B. of three Ansehlägen only one should be switched on and the other two should be switched off at the same time, the device for actuating the on and off switching of the various stops is in most cases quite cumbersome. To avoid this disadvantage, a linkage ratio change has been proposed in which a plurality of stops can be switched on in any order by means of a continuous switching movement, but in this known arrangement again no provision is made to switch the handle when the handle is tightened Enable brake.
At
Braking devices with a single stop that can be switched into different effective positions has been proposed to switch on a movement transmission element which is resilient on both sides in the actuating linkage (cf. is clamped. Such a resilient movement transmission member could of course also be used for the aforementioned linkage ratio change with several adjustable stops.
The arrangement has the disadvantage, however, that the resilient member can return the handle to its starting position when the handle is released, instead of changing the linkage ratio later after releasing the brake. This disadvantage could of course be avoided by locking the handle in the different conversion positions, but since the handle must be present on both sides of the trolley and it must be able to be moved from each side, it would also have to be on both sides

Conduct traffic.
The aim of the invention is to enable the use of a movement transmission member which is resilient in both reversing directions for the reversal of a linkage ratio change without the above-mentioned disadvantages occurring. It is only through this that such linkage transmission mechanisms, the handles of which would otherwise not be adjustable when the brake is applied, become practical
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
useful, because the ability to move the handle even when the brake is on is now generally required by the railway administrations.
For this purpose, according to the invention, in a linkage gear ratio change, in which a movement transmission element that is resilient in both directions is switched on between the changeover handle and the stop to be changed, a part of the changeover device located between the resilient movement transmission element and the handle is by means of a locking device in one of the number of braking force levels corresponding number of blocking positions can be determined, the handle having a certain freedom of movement with respect to the blocked part and being connected to an organ that triggers the blocking device when the handle is moved out of the central position of the freedom of movement area.
The invention is illustrated in one embodiment on the drawings.
FIGS. 1 and 2 each show an example of a multi-stage linkage ratio change to which the invention can be attached, for example, FIG. 1 showing a device with a stop that can be switched into different positions corresponding to one braking force stage. while FIG. 2 shows a brake linkage with a number of coupling rods corresponding to the number of transmission stages, each with a stop that can be switched on and off.
These two load changes used as examples are known per se.

is tightened, d. H. when the stop 6 (F] g. l) or the one of the connecting rods a, S and 1U assigned to the abutment (Fig. 2) is clamped, in the connection 11 between the angle lever 7 and the actuating device 12 is a resilient member 18 switched on, which, if the actuation device has been changed over with the brake applied, ensures the corresponding change in the transmission ratio of the brake linkage as soon as the brake is released.
Such a resiliently resilient member is shown in longitudinal section in FIG. 7 and consists of a cylinder M connected to the connecting rod 11, in which two screw compression springs 15 and 16 are inserted with an intermediate plate 17, the plate being displaceable in the cylinder like a piston and is connected to a rod dz forming part of the connection 11, which rod passes through the end wall 18 of the cylinder.
