Device for modulating transmission vibrations.
Modulation devices have already become known in which a high-frequency oscillation is modulated at a lower frequency in a multi-grating tube. The modulator tube has at least three grid electrodes, the voltages of which are selected so that a virtual cathode is formed between the cathode and the anode. The carrier oscillation and the modulation oscillation are each fed to a control electrode.
The invention relates to such a modulation device applied to high-frequency transmitters and has the purpose of reducing the influence of changes in the anode current on the oscillator circuit. This is achieved in that, in the modulation tube, the voltage of the anode and the control electrode in front of it and the screen electrode between the two are selected so that the mean anode current is kept lower than half the mean screen grid current or lower than a third of the mean cathode current .
This ratio ensures that changes in the anode current have a negligible influence on the performance of the oscillator circuit.
In the figure, an embodiment is shown that uses a hexode as the oscillator modulator tube.
10 means the tube with the cathode 1, the anode 6 and the four grids 2, 3, 4 and 5.
These four electrodes are arranged in the intermediate space at distances to be taken one after the other from the cathode to the anode. The virtual cathode and its approximate position are illustrated by the dash-dotted line 7. The oscillator circuit 15, 16, which is fed back to the grid 3 via the coil 18, is connected to the electrode 2 and to earth via the blocking capacitor 17. 14 is the grid leakage resistance. The coil 18 feeds back enough energy to maintain the carrier oscillation at a sufficiently high amplitude. 11 and 12 are the working voltage sources. The microphone 19 supplies the speaking frequency via the input transformer 20 to the grid 4, which receives a negative bias voltage from the battery 13.
The output circuit of the tube 10 has a tuned circuit O which contains a capacitor and a coil in parallel and is connected between the anode and ground. The coil simultaneously forms the primary winding of the output transformer 22, which transmits the modulated high frequency to the antenna 21.
The voltages at the grid 4, screen grid 5 and at the anode 6 are selected according to the invention so that the mean anode current is less than half the mean screen grid current or less than a third of the mean cathode current.
In addition to the hexode shown in the exemplary embodiment, the known Pentagrid tube can also be used; however, the best results can be achieved with special hexodes. The grid 2 consists of a non-uniform mesh network; this gives a straight-line modulation characteristic. For operation like a "class C" amplifier, in which the carrier frequency grating is operated with a considerably high negative bias, a uniform grating is preferred. Grids 3 and 5 are preferably made of fine meshes.
