   Die   Durchführung   der   Prüfung   geht in folgender Weise vor sich :
Durch das Röhrchen 1 wird eine bestimmte Menge der zu prüfenden Luft geleitet. Vom Kieselsäuregel werden die in der Luft enthaltenen Gift-oder Kampfstoffe adsorbiert und daher angereichert. Dann wird eine bestimmte Menge des gelösten farblosen Prüfreagens, also z. B. wässerige Jodsäurelösung, in das   Prüfröhrchen   gegeben. Beim Zusammentreffen des Reagens mit dem Kampfstoff enthaltenden Kieselsäuregel geht eine Reaktion vor sich. Es wird'Jod frei. Dieses reagiert sekundär mit der von vornherein am Kieselsäuregel haftenden Stärke und erzeugt die bekannte Blaufärbung. Diese Färbung bleibt nur auf das Kieselsäuregel   beschränkt   und hebt sieh daher gut von den weissbleibenden Einbettungsschichten ab.
