Description

 EMI1.1

 EMI1.1

In the known processes for regenerating natural or artificial zeolites (aluminum double silicates), which have been exhausted due to the release of their sodium base against lime and magnesia, by passing over sodium salt solutions, an amount of salt is consumed that is four to five times as large as the theoretically required amount of salt. In order to reduce this salt consumption, it has already been proposed to use two brine in such a way that the brine that has already been used for pre-regeneration is passed through the base exchange material and the post-regeneration takes place with a fresh brine, which is then stored for the next pre-regeneration.

It has also been proposed to pass a brine of about 60 Bé through the base exchange material and, after draining off the first portion of the brine containing most of the hardeners, to circulate it through the material to be regenerated.

Furthermore, it is already known to work with dilute - about 4-6% - salt solutions. However, all of these processes still require more than twice the theoretical amount of salt.

The invention achieves a further reduction in salt consumption in that a dilute brine, the amount of salt of which is only slightly above the theoretical value required for regeneration, is passed through the base-exchanging substance with a circulation pump or the like until its base exchange capacity is practically exhausted. In the method according to the invention, the sodium content of the regeneration brine is used to a greater extent than in the previously known methods and a saving in washing water is also achieved.
