Dampfregler.

Steam regulator.
The invention relates to a steam regulator for controlling the flow of a heating medium through a steam heating system in which, in particular, water vapor or steam at essentially atmospheric pressure is used, as is the case with known wagon heating devices.
Steam regulators of this type usually have a valve that controls the flow of steam from the point of delivery to the heating system and a thermostat device that automatically closes the valve when uncondensed steam flows back from the heating system. With the usual steam regulators of this type, the thermostat unit must generate considerable force in order to close the valve against the steam pressure. Furthermore, since the vapor pressure of the delivery point can change, the thermostatic element must exert sufficient force to overcome the greatest vapor pressures that are developed. According to the invention, the valve is controlled by a number of compensating springs so that it closes automatically when the required volume of steam is supplied to the heating system.
A pressure-actuated device works together with the spring device to control the valve in such a way that a predetermined pressure (usually atmospheric pressure) in the heating system is not exceeded. When the thermostatic element expands as a result of the return flow of steam from the heating system, it counteracts the action of the balancing springs so that it allows the valve to open. The spring pressure that has to be overcome by the thermostatic element never exceeds a certain maximum value, and the pressure changes at the delivery point have no effect on the operation of the thermostat device. The thermostatic element can therefore have a standard size for all steam pressures and does not need to be as strong as with the previous types of regulator.
The main purpose of the invention is to provide a steam regulator which is briefly indicated above and described in more detail below.
Another purpose of the invention is to provide a steam regulator which has a pressure reducing device to prevent the pressure in the heating system from rising above a certain maximum value.
Another purpose of the invention is to provide a steam regulator which has a pressure reducing device which maintains a certain steam pressure in the heating system.
A further purpose of the invention consists in creating a steam regulator with a compensating device for establishing the pressure which must be exerted by the thermostat-controlled device which responds to the temperature of the returned media.
Another purpose is to provide a vapor controller with an improved type of thermostatically controlled device that is responsive to the temperature of the returned media.
Further purposes and advantages of the invention will emerge more precisely from the following description of a steam regulator designed according to the invention.
In the drawing, FIG. 1 is a plan view of a steam regulator with some parts broken away, FIG. 2 is a vertical partial section essentially along the line 2-2 of FIG. 1, FIG. 3 is a vertical section

seat 15 can close, so that the steam flow through the passage 7 is blocked. The valve is pressed into its closing position by a spring 16 which lies between the outer surface of the valve 14 and the inner surface of the closing part 1.'3.
A removable screw plug 17 allows this valve set to be installed in the housing 1. Since there is a relatively higher pressure in the chamber 2 than in the chamber 3, this pressure difference also acts on the valve to keep it in the closed position. It can be seen that this valve is normally self-closing so that it shuts off the flow of steam from chamber 2 into chamber 3 if it is not opened by the device described later.
A feed line screwed into an opening 19 on one side of the chamber 2 comes from the delivery point, e.g. B. from the train line or main feeder line of a train. An inlet opening to be used as an alternative on the opposite side of the chamber 2 is closed by a plug 20. A delivery line screwed into an outlet opening of the chamber 3 leads to the radiator system or the like, which is to be fed with low-pressure steam.
An annular set 22, which is clamped against a sealing ring 23 by means of a plug part 24 screwed into a wall of the housing, carries one end of a flexible bellows membrane 25 which is attached at its other end to a flange 26 of a spindle 27 which is at its opposite End in an opening 28 in the opposite wall of the housing 1 is slidable The spindle 27 protrudes through an opening of a lever 29, which is at 30 within the chamber. 3 is rotatably mounted. The lever has a rounded extension 31 on one side, which rests against the flange 26

which lies against the adjacent end of the valve spindle 10.
One end of an expansion spring 33 is supported against the other side of the flange 26 and is centered by the end 34 of the spindle 27, while the other end of the spring is supported against a centering block 35, the concave outer side of which is at the pointed end of a set screw 36 screwed into the sealing plug 34 is applied. A cap 37 screwed into the plug 24 normally encloses the protruding end of the set screw. 36.

These media contain condensate and non-condensable gases, and also steam if excess steam is supplied to the heating system. If there is no steam in the returning medium, the temperature in the chamber 41 has such a value that the thermostatic disk 51 collapses to its minimum strength and the spring 56 pushes the spindle 48 down.
When steam flows through the line 59 into the chamber 41, the thermostatic disk 51 expands as a result of heating and lifts the spindle 48 against the force of the spring 56. When this flow of steam into the reflux chamber 41 ceases, the steam located therein condenses rapidly since the radiation of heat from this chamber is promoted by radiator fins 61 on the outside of the bell housing 39. The temperature in the reflux chamber then drops, so that the thermostatic disk 51 collapses and allows the spindle 48 to be pressed down again by the spring 56. The condensate and other media are drained from the reflux chamber 41 through the pipe 62.
A pin 64 is screwed into the upper end of the actuating spindle 48, which is fixed by a counter nut 65 and carries a block 68. The latter is articulated at 66 on the fork end 67 of a crank arm 68 which is fastened by a clamping screw 69 to the outer end of a shaft 70 which extends through a bearing 71 of a plug 72 into the low-pressure chamber 3. The opposite, offset end 73 of the shaft 70 is guided in a bore 14 of a slug 73 which protrudes inward from the opposite wall of the housing 1. A spring 76 lying between the slug 75 and a shoulder 76a of the shaft 70 presses a sealing ring 77 carried by a shaft flange 78 into engagement with an annular projection 79 of a closure plug 72.
This prevents the escape of steam on the chamber 3 around the rotatable shaft 70.
The lower fork end 80 of an arm reaching down from the shaft 70 engages around the spindle 27 and is provided with rounded projections 82 which can rest against projections 83 on one side of the lever 29.
When the thermostatic element 51 is heated and expands, it raises the spindle 48, thereby pivoting the crank arm 68 and shaft 10 counterclockwise (FIG. 3) and the crankshaft 81 in a clockwise direction (FIG. 4) Lever 29 is pivoted in such a direction that it compresses the spring 3 and allows the valve 14 to be closed by the spring 16. If there is no steam in the reflux chamber 41, see the thermostatic disk 51
EMI3.1
by the spring 33 in the event that the pressure in the chamber 3 has fallen so that more steam is required.
If, however, the steam pressure in the chamber 3 is sufficiently high, this pressure counteracts the action of the spring 33, so that the valve is prevented from opening if the crank arm 81 is also pivoted out of engagement with the lever 29.
The spring 33 is adjusted so that, when the heating system is cold, the force of this spring is sufficient to overcome the force of the spring 16 and to open the valve 14, so that steam is admitted through the chamber 3. This steam has to displace the air in the heating system and, as long as the valve is open, is increased by further steam that is let in from chamber 2. All of this tends to increase the pressure in the chamber 3. On the other hand, since the heating system is cold, this vapor will condense quickly, causing a partial vacuum and a reduction in pressure. If the pressure in chamber 3 rises significantly above the atmospheric pressure,
EMI3.2
is admitted.
In this way, the heating system is fed with steam without the pressure ever rising significantly above atmospheric pressure until the parts have reached such a temperature that the degree of condensation decreases. After that, just that much steam will come through the passage? * supplied so that the condensing steam is replaced without the pressure rising significantly above atmospheric pressure. As soon as more steam is supplied than is condensed in the radiator system, this steam excess flows back through the line 59 into the reflux chamber 41 and causes the thermostat disk 51 to expand.
As already described, this actuates the crank arm 81 in order to overcome the pressure of the spring 33 and to allow the valve 14 to close, and the like. zw. Independent of the pressure that then prevails in chamber 3. It can thus be seen that the valve 14 closes automatically every time the pressure in the chamber 3 and in the heating system fed by it rises above a certain maximum value and when an excess of steam flows through the heating system and flows back into the chamber 41.
It should be noted that the thermostat-controlled device does not act directly on the valve, but only counteracts the spring 33 actuating the valve, so that a certain maximum pressure is present that must be overcome by the thermostat disk, and the like. between independent of the steam pressure in chamber 2 and the delivery point. Excess pressure at the delivery point thus has no effect on the correct operation of the thermostat device, and the disc 51 needs to develop less force than was previously necessary and can be adjusted more finely. A single valve 14 has the effect of both controlling the steam pressure in the heating system and blocking a further flow of steam to the heating system when an excess of steam is supplied.
