The invention relates to an injection molding machine with a fixed and a movable platen, wherein a device is provided to generate a closing force between the mold halves carried by the platen, which is on the one hand on the back of the movable platen, on the other hand on a support plate (cylinder plate) supports.
In known such devices, the cylinder plate is part of the fixed machine frame. The distance of this cylinder plate from the fixed platen results from the length of the device used to apply the closing force and from the opening path of the mold. This means that the closing force is exerted on a frame which is much longer than the closed mold including the mold mounting plates that support the mold halves. This is particularly disadvantageous if, according to a proposal by the applicant (cf. EP 0 311 133), the entire closing force is absorbed by a C-shaped machine frame, the upward-pointing legs of which are not connected by bars.
Even if the deformations occurring in such frames are compensated for by allowing the movable mold half to take part in pivoting movements of the immovable mold half, or by mounting both mold mounting plates in an articulated manner, it is sensible to make the CRame as short as possible. Only in this way can bulges of the horizontal central web of the frame be kept to a minimum under the influence of the closing force without considerable effort.
In solving the stated problem, the invention assumes that the closing force is only applied when the mold is closed. It is therefore important to make the distance of the cylinder plate from the fixed platen or its carrier as small as possible when the mold is closed. In this sense it is provided according to the invention that the support plate can be moved on the machine frame and can be fixed there at selectable positions.
Constructive details of the invention are subsequently explained with reference to the drawing. In this is

Fig. 1 is a schematic side view of an injection molding device according to the invention, Fig. 2 and 3 show details of the connection of the support plate with the web of the machine frame.
The device shown has a fixed frame 1, the essential parts of which are an upstanding leg 2 and a horizontal web 3. A web 12 is arranged on the web 3, on which a support plate 4 can be moved in order to open and close the mold consisting of the mold halves 7, 8. This movement, referred to as the "rapid stroke", could be effected hydraulically. In the present case, a motor 18 is provided for this, which acts on the spindle 14. When the mold is closed, the support plate 4 is locked with the web 3, which is done hydraulically, for example, by the retraction actuated, pivotably arranged wedges 15. The closing pressure is then applied by a pressure cushion 13.
Instead of using wedges 15, the support plate 4 can also be locked with the web 3, as shown in FIG. 2, by an expandable pressure sleeve 16, or, as shown in FIG. 3, by means of a friction lining 17 pressed on by means of a hydraulic unit 18.
The main application of the invention lies in tie-bar-less machines, since no devices are provided for preventing the pivoting of the leg 3 or the support plate 4 to the outside. To compensate for this pivoting, it is provided in the present case, as in US Pat. No. 5,249,951, that the mold mounting plates 5, 6 carrying the mold halves 7, 8 can be pivoted about joints 9 with horizontal pivot axes. This pivoting takes place against the pressure of springs 11, the effect of which is otherwise limited by stops 10.
