<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Device for holding jacks for motor vehicles.
The invention described in patent no. 142608 has shown deficiencies in practice which are to be remedied by the improvements described below.
The invention dealt with in main patent no. 142608 consists mainly in the fact that the car jack is held on the wheel or pneumatic tire by means of a fork device and the like
EMI1.1
1 and 2) results in the following difficulties in practice: If the fork width is set too tight with respect to the pneumatic tire before use, it makes it difficult to push the tire. Too large a fork width impairs the accuracy of the lift adjustment with respect to the axle support point because the fork cannot grip the mostly deflated, flexible pneumatic tire so tightly that the fork is prevented from tilting (i.e. not perpendicular to the axis).
Due to this possibility of inclination, there is a risk that the jack will not be pushed exactly under the axle support point intended for lifting. The support head of a common (mostly unstable) car jack offers such a small axle support surface that even a shift of a few millimeters in front of or behind the axle can cause the jack to slip or tilt. This misalignment is made even easier by the fact that the entire fork arm device has to be pushed to the point of use by means of a long jack screw rod, quite far below the car body which prevents visibility.
Since the winch rod pushes on the one-armed lever formed by the platform i, the connecting arm m, n. H and the fork a, al (main patent, Fig. 1 and 2), engaging on one side only, a misalignment (i.e. not parallel below the axis above, hidden from view) is very easy.
In addition, the platform (with the jack on it), which is easily displaceable as a result of the roller arrangement, by using the jack threaded rod as a push rod, tries not to bring the jack exactly under the intended axle support point by bouncing forward.
In order to remedy these deficiencies, it is necessary to relocate the arm rn, n, h carrying the fork to the front from the position beyond the control (i.e. from the space under the car body). This happens because the platform t in the main patent with the fork a. al connecting arm m, n, h detached from the platform and slidably attached as leg d, dl together with the fork e of an angle arm on the jack screw rod a (Fig. 2).
In order to remedy the disadvantage of a protrusion caused by the one-sided sliding effect of the winch rod, according to a modified embodiment, the winch rod is mounted in a support rod c, cl (Fig. 2A) in such a way that it is in the same both in its length and in the angle of inclination to the horizontal is adjustable. This linkage c, cl, which is fixed at the upper end of the front wall of the car or on the bumper, is held at the lower end with the foot (footrest c 2), results in a precisely adjustable limitation or. Stop device for the advancing winch rod or the entire holding device.
In the case of jacks which are operated not by a winch rod but by a pump lever, an auxiliary shaft v is attached to the platform b (FIG. 5) and the arm d, d 1 together with the fork e is arranged displaceably on the auxiliary shaft. Another deficiency that is often asserted is that many car axles are inaccessible due to protruding car parts, which greatly hinders the pushing of an upright car jack. This deficiency is eliminated by the fact that the lifter
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
(Fig. 5) is not attached directly to the platform, but on an intermediate plate (advantageously in a cross shape).
This base cross t is connected to the platform by two hinges u, ut acting to the right and left (adjustable) and can be set in various angular positions relative to the platform by means of a lockable tilting device tU.
Since most jacks have their drive just above the jack foot, putting them into operation requires a tiring crouching position, which becomes all the more uncomfortable the greater the overhang of the car body. An additional transmission is used to remedy this disadvantage (FIGS. 3 and 3 A) which, with the aid of the support rods c, cl, enables the lifting operation to be moved to a corresponding height above the roadway. In this improvement, the long jack screw rod is divided into two unequal parts and these are connected to each other (Fig. 3A) by a ball (discs) articulated al.
The drawings show several embodiments of the invention, u. Between Fig. 1 shows the floor plan of the platform with the jack screw rod and the fork fixation connected using a support rod, Fig. 2 shows an embodiment with an angle arm as a bearing support, Fig. 2A in elevation and side view that for the storage of the wind rod according to Fig. 1 serving support rods as well as different embodiments of its attachment to the bumper, Fig. 2 B a plan of the mounting of the winch rod in the support rod, Figs. 3 and 3 A an elevation and a side view of an additional transmission with a divided jack screw rod held together by a ball joint, Fig 4 shows an elevation of the assembled retaining device, FIG. 5 shows a plan of a platform provided with a shaft with base cross and tilting device, FIG.
5 A shows a side view of the platform with the base cross, FIG. 5 B shows a detail for fixing the tilting device according to FIG. 5.
According to FIGS. 1 and 2, a is the jack screw rod of a jack attached to the platform b.
(i!, J! is the arm consisting of two parts that can slide one inside the other. In the embodiment according to FIG. 2, the arm part d is formed into two mutually perpendicular legs by being bent by 90. Of these legs, the horizontally extending d lies on the roadway , the vertical leg d 2 serves as a bearing support for the winch rod A. In the winch rod mounting according to FIGS. 1, 2 and 2 B, the support is extended so high beyond the mounting point of the winch rod that

the pipe section i is pivotably mounted by means of a pin. In this pipe section j a bearing bush k is rotatably mounted.
The winch rod pushed into this bearing bush k is releasably connected to the bushing by means of an adjusting screw l (FIG. 2 B). ? ?, m j! are two sleeves connected by the bolt m 2 at the upper end of the rod c, c 1. On this bolt the one fastening screw or the like can be pivoted forwards and backwards! supporting fastening part n attached. A nut part o attached to the front wall of the car is used to hold the screw o. L For fastening the support rod c, clan the bumper p, the pivotable fastening part n is designed as a hook, in which the fixing screw 01 acts as a pressure screw.
The embodiment with additional transmission (FIGS. 3 and 3 A) shows a flat bar marked q, which serves as a carrier for the chain wheels around s. The drive wheel f, which can be operated with a hand crank, is pushed together with the rail onto the screw bolt 01 in such a way that it can rotate both on this bolt and in the rail. The transmission chain wheel s is also rotatable in the rail, but is detachably connected to the winch rod a. This consists of a shorter and a longer section, which is connected by a ball joint a j! are articulated together.
The exemplary embodiment (FIGS. 5, 5 A and 5 B) shows a hollow shaft v releasably connected to the platform b. The other end of this shaft carries a fixation bow v 1 and a foot rest v 2. The tilting rod 10 is rotatably located in the shaft cavity. It is at one end with the to the left or

of the lifter. It is connected to platform b by releasable hinges u, u 1. One of the hinges is made effective by inserting a hinge pin, depending on the selected side of the lift tilt, the other is released. t 1, t 2 and t 3 are the right-angled base cross arms that serve as adjusting screw nut bearings.
