Primer.
The invention relates to a primer which is intended in particular for mortar projectiles which are pushed into the barrel from the front and in which, in some cases, the ignition takes place when the primer hits a solid firing pin attached to the bottom of the barrel. However, it may be desirable to use a jet flame to ignite the primer. The subject of the invention is intended for the latter type of ignition.
The essence of the invention is that the primer is stored secured against ignition by impact and is ignited by a flame.
In the drawing, a primer according to the invention is shown in axial section in FIG. 1 before and in FIG. 2 after its detonation.
The primer consists of the outer capsule shell a, which has an approximately hemispherical recess b and a central ignition channel c at the bottom. The recess around the ignition channel serves to prevent the ignition pin from striking the primer housing and to allow the ignition flame striking through the ring channel surrounding the ignition pin Z to reach the primer.
The actual primer is in the upper part of the capsule shell a.
This consists of a frustoconical upwardly widening sleeve d with an inwardly bulging base h. Several holes e are provided in this base to the side of the central ignition channel e. In the sleeve d is the primer f, which is covered in a known manner with foils at the top and bottom. If the primer according to the invention is hit by a jet of flame through the central ignition channel c, it can penetrate into the cavity which is formed under the case base d. The flame then passes through the holes e to the primer f and causes it to explode.
The resulting pressure presses the bottom of the sleeve d flat onto the inner bottom of the outer capsule sleeve a, whereby the ignition channel c is closed.
