Device for holding projectiles in mortar and gun barrels.
The projectiles are usually held in place in mortar and gun barrels by bringing the lead tape of the projectile into abutment against the lines of the bore. In the case of mine throwers and gun barrels which have smooth bores, that is to say no trains or fields and in which the projectile is loaded from the front, the insertion depth is limited by the fact that a projectile part hits the rear part of the barrel. Such projectiles are only held in the tube by gravity. If the barrel is pivoted, the projectile can be moved against the barrel muzzle by centrifugal forces, whereby the initial combustion chamber is enlarged.
If the barrel is pointing downwards (negative firing angle), the bullet does not stay in the desired position in the barrel, but falls out of it.
In order to avoid the inconveniences described, it is known to hold the projectile in the barrel by resilient stops. In the known designs, the resilient stops are provided on the tube so that they are often stressed and can easily become ineffective as a result of this as well as when they become hot or when they are contaminated by the propellant gases or the like. wear out, jam, that the springs become soft or the like.
The invention consists in the fact that catch hooks are attached to the body of the projectile on the tube of the wings or on these themselves, which jump into a recess in the tube or the rear tube or behind a catch ring after the projectile has been pushed in.
The ring-shaped catches are much less sensitive to dirt and wear and tear, especially since the catch hooks always engage at other points on the catches.
The drawing shows four exemplary embodiments of the type of fastening according to the invention in longitudinal sections through the pipe.
According to Fig. 1, the tube 1 has a notch 4 at its rear end, into which the resilient catch hooks 6, which are fastened to the wings 5 of the projectile 3 and bent outward, spring in, which enter the annular groove 7 of the rear tube piece 2, so that the primer of the cartridge 8 can strike the firing pin 9. The catch hook 6 can also be used at other points on the floor 3 z. B. according to FIG. 2 in a groove 10 of the front bullet guide and snap into a groove 14 of the tube 1. The catch hooks can either be permanently or detachably connected to the projectile, wing tube or wing. According to Fig. 3 protrudes into the pipe 1 in the pipe rear part 2 axially arranged, conical beveled pin 11 which has a cylindrical undercut 12 in which inwardly bent spring catches 6 engage.
According to FIG. 4, an annular disk 13 with a conical hole wall is clamped between the end face of the pipe 1 and the pipe rear section 2. The resilient catch hooks 6 fastened to the wings 5 of the projectile 3 enter the annular groove 7 of the rear pipe section 2 and engage under the annular disk 13.
