<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

Device for generating air circulation in closed rooms.
There are already devices for generating air circulation in closed rooms for ventilation, heating or cooling purposes, in which part of the room air, possibly with the admixture of outside air, is driven through one or more injectors by means of a fan, thereby creating ducts, both of which Ends are open towards the circulation spaces, an air movement is caused.
In the known devices of this type, a special channel is assigned to each injector, which has the consequence that the air located between the inlet and outlet openings of the channels is either not at all or only incompletely affected by the action of the injectors, so that in the Room in which the air is to be set into circulation, only individual circulation flows are generated, between which there are air parts that either do not participate in the circulation or only incompletely participate. If one wanted to capture the entire room air by means of such a system, one would have to arrange a relatively large number of injectors, each with an associated channel, which of course would be very uneconomical.
The use of relatively narrow channels which are connected to the suction nozzle of the injectors also has the disadvantage that the air speed generated in these channels is too great for many purposes. In areas where closed rooms are heated or ventilated, a rate of circulation that goes beyond a certain level makes itself unpleasantly perceptible as a draft. But the circulation speed must not become too great in cold stores either, because an excessively high air speed would exert an excessively strong drying effect on the goods to be cooled, in particular food, which could affect the quality of these goods.
The subject of the present invention is a device that allows relatively simple means to bring about an air circulation at low speed that captures the entire air filling the room with high uniformity, so that dead spaces or local strong currents are avoided. This is achieved in that both the inlet opening and the outlet opening of the channel under the action of an injector extend over the entire or almost the entire width of the circulation space. When several injectors are used, they act on a common channel, the inlet and outlet of which extends over the entire or almost the entire width of the circulation space.
The invention will first be explained using the exemplary embodiment shown schematically in elevation and plan in FIGS. 1 and 2.
In the vicinity of the ceiling 1 of the room 2 (e.g. a living room or work room), a horizontal wall 3 is arranged, which leaves a channel 4 free between itself and the ceiling 1, the width of which is the same as that of the room and that through the inlet 5 and the outlet 6 with the space below the wall 3, that is to say the circulation space 7, is connected.
At one end of the channel 4 a pipe 8 is arranged, from which a number of blow nozzles 9 branch off, which are directed towards the channel 4. This pipe 8 is connected to the pressure side of an air delivery device 10 (ventilator or the like.) The suction side of which is connected by a pipe 11 with any

The suction pipe 11 can also contain a shut-off or throttle element 14. In the pressure pipe 8 a device 15 is switched on, which is intended to influence the state of the air in some way, so the

Serve space f, whereby here, if it is a question of cooling, not so much a cooling for technical purposes as for the purpose of lowering the summer temperature in a living or working space is intended.
The dynamic effect of the air blown out by the nozzles generates a suction effect on the edge 16 of the wall 3 adjacent to these nozzles, whereby the air from the circulation space? is drawn through the inlet 5 into the channel 4, where it mixes with the air jets coming from the nozzles, flows through the channel 4 to the right and passes through the outlet 6 back into the circulation space. This suction effect of the nozzles 9 extends over the entire width of the edge M, which is equal to the width of the circulation space 7, and the air also flows from the duct 4 through the outlet 6 into the circulation space 7 in a wide stream.
With a suitable choice of the flow energy generated by the blower nozzles, it can be achieved that the entire air content of the circulation space 7 is set into slow circulation, the state of the air being influenced accordingly by means of the device 15. Depending on the setting of the throttle or shut-off elements 13, 14, larger or smaller amounts of fresh air can also be supplied to the air in the circulation space. It is significant that the speed of the air emerging from the nozzles 9 can never be directly felt in the circulation space 7.
While in the illustrated embodiment, the injector-like acting device 8, 9,3 is housed in the room 2 itself, you can of course arrange the entire device outside of the room 2, so z. B. so that the space 2 is connected to an outside channel 4, both ends of which are connected to the space 2 by wide connecting channels that correspond to the inlet and outlet 5 and 6. The channel 4 does not always have to be arranged horizontally; he could

FIGS. 3 and 4 show another embodiment of the invention applied to a refrigeration room in elevation and plan.
Here, a cooling pipe system 18 is arranged on the ceiling of the room 17, which is surrounded by a housing which is delimited on both sides by vertical walls 19 and below by a somewhat inclined plate 20. The walls 19 and the plate 20 delimit a channel 21 which corresponds to the channel 4 of the embodiment according to FIG. 1 and which, as there, is also open at the two ends. A funnel-shaped hollow body 22 protrudes into the inlet end of the channel 21, which emanates from a fan 23 and which widens from this towards the channel 21 to almost the width of the channel 21, but narrows in the vertical direction.
This narrowing in the height direction is due to the fact that the lower boundary 24 of this funnel-shaped hollow body 22, as shown in FIG. 3, is directed obliquely upwards, whereas the upper boundary can be horizontal. Between the right end of the lower boundary 24 of the funnel-shaped hollow body 22 and the left edge 25 of the plate 20, a gap 26 is left, which extends almost over the entire width of the space 17 and acts as a suction nozzle of the ejector device, which by the union of the funnel-like Hollow body 22 is formed with the channel 21.
The air flow generated by the fan 23 widens in the funnel-shaped hollow body 22 and flows into the channel 21 in which the cooling pipe system 18 is located. In this case, air is sucked from the circulation space 27 into the channel 21 through the gap 26, so that this air mixes with the air conveyed directly by the fan and is cooled there. This cooled air then leaves the channel 21 in a wide stream and pours into the circulation space 27. Here, too, the ratios can be chosen so that the entire air content of the circulation space 27 is kept in motion at low speed, without any dead corners .
The plate 20, which forms the lower limit of the channel 21, is, as already noted, somewhat inclined and consequently also takes on the effect of the drip trays otherwise used in such systems, which serve to collect and discharge the condensation water.
If the funnel-shaped hollow body 22 were to be connected to the channel 21 in such a way that no gap 26 would remain through which air is sucked from the circulation space into the channel 21, air would probably also be circulated in the space 27. In this case, however, dead corners would arise, especially in the area of the fan 23, and then the following disadvantage would also arise: After the fan has been switched off, the cooling pipes would be impossible to defrost from the insulating layer of snow or ice because the air flow in the channel 21 would only be possible through the opening in which the fan is located. For the purpose of defrosting, the fan would therefore have to continue to run even after the refrigeration machine has been switched off.
With fully automatic
In cooling systems, this would mean that the fan would have to be kept running continuously.
In the system shown in FIGS. 3 and 4, however, the iced cooling pipes are defrosted automatically by the air flowing through the wide gap 26 into the duct 21 even when the fan is switched off
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
can get in and flow out at the other end. The two inclined walls 24 and 20 leading to the gap 26 provide very good guidance for the air rising from the space 27 to the gap 26.
In structural terms, the device according to the invention can be changed in many ways compared to the illustrated embodiments.
