<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Device for sewing machines for the production of carpets by means of a hollow needle.
The subject matter of the invention is a device which can be attached to sewing machines in order to introduce the threads forming the covering into the base fabric like a ring in the manufacture of carpets.
On the accompanying drawing, a piece of carpet is shown schematically in Hg. FIG. 2 shows an embodiment of the subject matter of the invention from the front in the axial direction, FIG. 3 shows the same from the side, FIG. 4 shows it in the opposite direction from FIG. 2 and FIG. 5 from below. FIG. 6 shows a longitudinal section through the coupling on an enlarged scale and FIG. 7 illustrates a section through the gripper along the line A-A of FIG. 2.
There are 2 the weft and warp threads of the base fabric and 1 the pile-forming loop-like yarn threads introduced into the base fabric.
J is a hollow needle through which the pile-forming yarn is inserted at 4 above and passed through a side hole 5 below. The needle is clamped by means of a bracket 6 in a needle holder 7 of normal design. is a plate that is attached to the sewing machine in place of the normal needle plate and that has a web 9 on the lower side. A support 10 is attached to the same by a screw 11. This support is fixed laterally by two ribs 12 located on the webs, which correspond to grooves in the support. A slot 13 provided in the same serves to shift the latter in its height position, through which the screw 11 passes. At the free end of the support 10, a shaft 14 is rotatably mounted and held by a washer 15 and split pin 16.
The opposite free end of the shaft is formed as half of a dog clutch to be brought into engagement with the lower shaft of the sewing machine. The shaft 14 is flange-like as a coupling
EMI1.1
as the coupling body also has a claw 20. The ring can be fixed in the groove 22 by means of an adjusting screw 21. By moving the claws against each other, the coupling can be adapted to the coupling half of the sewing machine lower shaft without play.
The gripper 25 is seated on the shaft, held by a sleeve 23 and a screw 24 is clamped.
The gripper consists of a gripper plate and a gripper finger, the free end of which is slightly bent and tapered from the gripper plane in the direction towards the coupling. The inner edge between the gripper finger and the gripper plate is sharpened like scissors. A blade 27, for example a safety razor blade, is also attached to the web 9 by screws 26 in such a way that its cutting edge rests against the gripper plane on the side opposite the coupling, whereby this blade forms a cutting device with the edge at the attachment of the gripper finger on the plate.
The plate is fastened to the sewing machine table by means of a resilient clamp 28 and a screw 29 which is screwed into a base 30. This device can be attached to all central winding machines. Since the various sewing machine designs differ in the distances between the shaft axis and the plate, the slide-like height adjustment of the support is provided as a shaft bearing. Other modifications, such as the width and length of the panels, which the various systems require, are of a purely structural nature.
The base fabric to be processed into the carpet is placed on the plate. The needle pushes the thread through it, where the thread slings are caught by the looper finger in the lowest needle position. By turning the gripper according to FIG. 2 to the left, the loop is over the finger
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
striped up to the inner edge of the approach, then taken along by this edge and cut open by sliding past the blade 27. During this cutting movement, the needle goes up again.
Depending on the construction of the machine, the gripper makes one revolution while the needle executes an up and down movement, or the gripper executes an osseous movement, with the fingertip in one end position as shown in FIG. 2 being slightly to the right of the needle axis and in the other, the inner edge of the attachment of the gripper finger covers the cutting edge of the blade 27. Such a back and forth movement of the gripper in turn corresponds to an up and down movement of the needle. With each of these movements, a thread loop is drawn into the base fabric.
